Thsi was predicted back in 2002, Ford is just the first one to start cutting UAW jobs. The other two, GM & DC, will follow shortly.

the folks that are getting bought out will do VERY well. I've read reports of cash lump sums of 70,000 plus vouchers for a new car.

The UAW workers are not being bought out, they are being terminated.

considering that, on average, it costs Ford something like $110,000 per UAW employee per year to keep them on the payroll (salary + union negotiated "sit on your ass and read the paper" overtime + benefits), this cut of 12,000 could be considered an exercise in "cutting the fat"

at $70,000 + a car, that's a friggen bargain

BUT, it's frightening where the manufacturing economy of the US is going

Sounds like a great deal. They toss you a years salary and you spend the rest of your life as a pauper in Flint, Mi. rallying behind Michael Moore as your champion.

More bad news for the jobless, like me

The Telecoms are gearing up for huge slashes in work force too. ATT&T getting ready to get rid of approx 20,000 as well as BellSouth and Verizon.

I don't see anything from stopping an all out DEPRESSION folks.

Japan has basically been in a recession for a decade. It is now our turn. Get use to it.

I think we have enough economic security to prevent a literal depression... but a figurative depression for millions of people out of work is what's already going on.

The rich get richer and poor get poorer... that's always a bad sign.

Americans want too much fvcking money for their incompetance. Baltimore City schools passed 850 8th grade flunkies that failed both the regular school year and summer school. 8TH GRADE! Any fvcktard can get a high school diploma, and alomst anyone can get a degree if they're willing to sit down and try for about 4 years.

There won't be enough "rich" left to stop an all out DEPRESSION".

Verizon just announced it is laying off 74,000 employees (it was supposed to be 25,000 but was revised up considerably)

That is 150,000+ jobs lost today alone!!!

If anyone of you has had a chance to see UAW personel "working", you would be crying on why the amount is so low..... They are the ones killing the USA autocompanies!

"No sir, I can't do that, it is not in my contract"
"Fvck, d@mn, fvck.... It is already the 5th half-hour lunch and I am here screwing this bolt. I am going to miss the initial 30 seconds....."
rolleye.gif

" I don't care if it has been only 4 hours since I came to work. I am going home as I already finished my daily quota....."
" I have all the right to watch the hockey game or read the newspaper while asembling that part....."

Tough, yes, it hurts, but unless they are totally willing to help their employers, the USA autocompanies are at a big disadvantage.... :(

After seeing former CEO's of huge company's fill out false income tax returns, I can imagine what grief they had to go through laying off so many of their employees.

That's over 100,000+ people who wont be able to support their families this christmas.

There are 3 key points here:

1. "combination of buyouts" aka is the same as pushing the people who were close to retirement into retirement.
2. "normal attrition" aka the people who were going to leave anyways.
3. "next few years" aka nobody has lost their job yet and they have plenty of time to make adjustments.

In short, this changes nothing.

If Ford and GM can't make a car to compete with the Accords and Camrys (and various others), it's going to get worse.

Economic signs of recovery... BWAHAHAHA!

Already the pressure from retail outlet higher ups begin for the holiday season... consumer sentiment is at a low and the job cuts are just starting so that companies can report better numbers by cutting people. This happened last year... the year before that... etcetc. NOT fun.
