The CA dollar isn't climbing foo, the US dollar is falling. This isn't just semantics it is completely diff'rent. In any case, gloating is ill-advised since the CAN economy is going to suffer along with the USA's. Besides that, it is unbecoming and further evidence of an inferiority complex.

US dollar now worth less than Monopoly CAD. :( I remember getting around $1.30 CAD during the mid 90's.

It was 1.6 in the 2000's IIRC, like 3 or 4 years ago.
£1 -> $USD1.6
$1.6USD -> $1.6CAD
Now it's £1 = $2CAN/USD

Woot... still means nothing to me. Retailers are still using lame, gauged prices and I don't go cross border shopping/shipping.

Err, yeah, now extend the charts and CAD has been relatively volatile vs EUR & GBP and is just coming back to where it was five quarters ago and still less than earlier highs whereas the USD has steadily declined. The Canadian economy is strong but there is no doubt the bulk of the difference has been due to the USA's weakness.

op, you need to understand that even though the CAD is getting stronger, eventually, canada's exconomy will suffer. The canadian and american economies are in symbiosis. if one suffers, the other may at first get better, but eventually will suffer as well.

Yes, but it probably won't be as bad as the US economy. We export mostly raw materials... lumber, gas, oil, ores, water, electricity... The US isn't showing any signs of slowing down consumption so we won't take much of a hit there. The manufacturing sector, sure, but it won't be such a big blow.

Can you change the forums back to the way they were after you complete the buyout?

The Canadian Dollar being strong against the U.S. Dollar is a bad thing. Someone said earlier that we export raw materials. 90% of those raw materials are to the United States!!

When our dollar was weak, our exports represented a good buy. Now to compete, we will need to lower prices. U.S manufacturers now become a good buy

We are heavily dependent on the U.S. for the strength of our economy. Give it a little time and we will slide down with them.
