And I wonder where my 25k+ tuition goes....

Where do you got to school? Mine has neither plasmas, leather seats nor tabless as nearly as large as yours...but on the other hand, I don't have to pay anything for tuituion 🙂

Wow. At least those might get some use. My school(ASU) recently put up 2 huge flat screens in the LIBRARY, that have yet to have anything on them when I walked past. They're right near the entrace too, with no seating in front of them, so you couldn't like sit on a couch or chair and watch the news or whatever, if they were turned on.

That's insane. At my college, we've got some video projectors that are larger than some PC's, ancient video cameras that weight well over 10lbs, a variety of old and possibly-working lab equipment, and a network that often will make 56k look speedy due to excessive packet loss.
Oh, and a new $30M engineering and business building. It was just finished at the end of August this year. The roof is already leaking in several places, at least one area was roped off for repairs, a wall has plywood over it, windows throughout the building leak, and the concrete walkways are already cracking. Some skimming off the top perhaps?
Oh but it looks fancy - excessive use of glass everywhere. The damn railing supports are thick panes of glass. The heating bills are going to be insane for that place.

Gotta love it. Either too much or too little gets done.

Don't feel too bad, in one of the buildings on campus here, there's a pair of newly-installed, multi-thousand-dollar plasmas sitting on the wall doing nothing more than serving as a directory...and a static one at that.

$10k just to have a crisp and clear picture pointing the way to room 212.

Do you go to law school in FL? When I was in UF we had nothing like that. Graduated last year...we didn't even have a proper library for my last year and a half :frown:

yeah i have noticed a lot of schools doing this (mine included).

i think what is happening is school administrators are trying to be "in" with technology to make schools seem advanced, but its pretty annoying to me. a poster can do what these TVs are doing. maybe not in aphex's case, but most of the time its just a banner for a school, or a phone number, or something else just as stupid.

eh, some schools have huge endowments, and well theres always generous alumni, or corporate charity/special education deals

is it double paned low e glass? the new glass isn't bad at all for insulation.

Sometimes Alumins or Companies donate money that have to use pretty exclusively for certain things, so thats maybe why they did a setup like that....

pffft....one of my school's library has a herman miller chairs for all the computers + the study desks, so probably 100+ in that library alone.

Probably from a donation. Look for a plaque.

Even at full tution, the school isn't really making money off of you. Depends on the school but usually 20-50% of the cost of your education is being paid by endowment/donations.

Plus rooms like that are great for marketing, both to new students (look at our facilities) and alumni (look at what so and so gave to us, now don't you want to make a difference here too? Crap, I can't let him get away with that, maybe it's time to donate a couple more million to have a VR room put in...)
