And I went over my speaker budget again...

I think I was just fooling myself that I wouldn't spend as much as I did but the last big purchase is in. Just bought a MFW-15 Turbo SS 15" sub which should arrive in a few weeks. I bought two PSB Imagine T for L&R, Imagine C center, and PSB 4Ts for surrounds. Its a bit of a mongrel pack though as I justified the purchases by getting B stock\closeouts\craigslist speakers. The Imagine Ts are gloss black, the center is gloss white, surrounds are ash black and the sub will be wood tone. Shouldn't matter much though as they'll be in my HT and the LCR and probably sub will be behind an acoustically transparent wall

Now I just need to finish building the damn theater room

I think that's pretty normal. I went over my initial budget by about $4k. I figured if I'm going to do it, might as well do it right.

Yea, I went over my budget as well. Although not as much as yours! I replaced my LCR Energy minis with b stock EMPs and also picked up a b stock i12 sub. Was only planning on spending $250 for the front LR, and threw in the center and sub. Ended up close to $1k, but I'm very happy and the wife approves so win/win.

My centre was a grand, when I bought my sound system 16 years ago :awe:

In fact the taxes I paid on my speakers was 900.

Didn't go over budget because I didn't set one :awe:

I think we've all done that at some point. I have found that DIY offers far more "bang for the buck" than traditional retail speakers. The $350 per speaker I spent is equal to JTR $2k+ speakers in most GTG that I've seen. There is work involved, but it is worth it and I wouldn't go back. It's not for everyone though. I was using Klipsch Reference speakers before I went DIY.

I was VERY close to purchasing a full Klipsch Reference set (between that and B&W) before I found someone on AVS and actually went and demo'd his system. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad sounding at all, but it just didn't sound nearly as good as I expected. And even after chatting with the dude, even he said if he did it all over again he wouldn't have gotten those speakers. At the time he said he would have gone with JTR or that other brand similar to JTR that has the amps in the speakers (can't remember the brand), but I'm pretty sure now he would go DIY since he's the dude on AVS that built 16 subs to hook them all up together lol.

I'm very glad I took a step back and decided to do more research and not rush into my purchase, and ended up with a full 5.2 JTR setup.
