Whoever thought of that name should be shot in the fvckin face :|
Damnit... why can't we ever come up with a real damn sport team name...
First the Houston Texans
Now the Houston 1836!!?
Our citys creativity is crap.... :(
I'm actually embarrassed that our city came up with a name like that.....

Dallas' football team used to be called the Texans long ago, so that's not necessarily a new mascot name.

But 1836? Wow.

Ahh, who cares? I know I'm not going to any of their games...

Kinda like the '76ers I guess.

It's not a bad name. Not especially good either, but not bad.

but really, 1836? wth is that? the year of independance?

i believe it was answered above...texas' independence from mexico

Texas was its own country from 1936-1946

im surprised its no the Texas- "You Know We Were Our Own Country"

could be the YKWWOOC for short

because i heard that at least 1000 times in the 6 months i lived in houston

Well, it's not like it's the first. As someone mentioned about, there are the 76ers. San Fran obviously has the 49ers. Houston just needs to refer to themselves as the 36ers and it will make more sense I guess.

Then again, it's soccer, so who cares.

Dude, that was the year Houston was constituted as a city by Sam Houston...not the year of independence.

1836 is the year of Texas independence. Texas was an independent country from 1836 until 1845. It is also the year of the city's birth.

lol...so what would a city/state do for a team name if the year of importance landed on a decade/century?

The 20er's isn't so catchy...how about the 1900er's. doh

So do you say the whole thing out? The one thousand eight hundred thirty sixers?
