And here's the Nexus S: No HSPA+(4G) or SDcard slot, or LED notifications

http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/06/googles-nexus-s-product-page-goes-live/

This thing is all but official anyway, but for what it's worth, Google's now got its own product page live for the upcoming Nexus S from Samsung. Here's the rundown: 4-inch WVGA display, triband HSPA with AWS support (no HSPA+, seemingly), 5 megapixel camera, NFC, 16GB of onboard storage, 512MB of RAM, available on T-Mobile. It's also got a gyroscope -- as do the existing Galaxy S phones -- along with something being called the "contour display" (which matches up with rumors we've heard), integrated VoIP support, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Interestingly, the phone's quoted as having nothing more than a 1GHz Cortex A8-based Hummingbird processor, seemingly shooting down rumors that this thing would be rocking the Orion dual-core setup. Ah, well! Peep all the shots in the gallery below.

I gotta say, I'm not impressed. I'm glad Google is continuing their Nexus brand, but this phone doesn't seem to offer much over existing phones. Hardware is inline with other high end Android phones, perhaps this is intentional to appease Android handset makers?

Ironically, I get better coverage with T-Mo around here than I do with VZW or AT&T.

Yeah, carrier is always area dependent but I bought the Nexus One for use in my area with T-Mo and the 3G coverage was much to be desired. Plus, I hated having to go outside just to send a text.

Not likely. You could just buy an Epic 4G or a Fascinate, its pretty much the same thing . . .just running Eclair and TouchWiz instead of Stock Gingerbread.

I assume you're coming in years? :p

Not official Gingerbread... but a ROM should be easy for Devs.

So its a Vibrant with NFC and stock Android.

A nice phone, but definitely not ground breaking.

Yup. I can't wait to see how quickly devs are able to port this to the other Galaxy S phones.

Are there any source built ROMs for the Galaxy S phones yet? Isn't Samsung's goofy filing system or some such delaying the efforts? I know the Cyanogenmod Galaxy S version has no ETA yet.

That makes a lot of sense, the Nexus One was a good phone (after a lot of tweaks by Google) , but it confused the consumers and irritated the hell out of the carriers by upsetting the applecart.

What remains to be seen is if VOIP integration and a data only plan is just as disruptive.

I'll probably get one of these on the 16th. Love my N1 right now and will be sad to give it up.

Nope, third beta in nightlies already.

The filing system issue was solved on all variants ages ago.

Hmm, I know Cyanogen sent a tweet out early this morning saying there was no ETA for the Samsung phones, probably was referring to the Final product.

So you can't get AT&T 3G with this? Why the hell do they keep on doing T-Mobile exclusives with the Nexus brand? That makes no sense.

T-Mobile is more friendly with the open phones than other carriers. Pretty sure Samsung developed this Galaxy S variant under supervision from Google, which is why it doesn't include TouchWiz, Verizon VCAST/Navigator, etc.

You can use it on ATT, just no 3g service. They would need to make another phone for that purpose with a different radio.

Well it's a shame they only make AWS and 2100. But then again you can't blame manufacturers for making a 2100 version. It serves like 95% of the world. We are losers for being on 850/1900.

ATT, Verizon, Sprint love to put all their crap on phones, more so with Verizon.

I was on Tmobile for years and made the switch to sprint because they offered me a better discount. TBH Im jealous of my friends on Tmobile. HSPA+ is much more broad, faster, and consistent compared to Sprint's 4G. Sprint's 3G is horrible as well. Im getting 0.3-0.6 Mbits while people on Tmobile are gettin 1-2 Mbits.

Anyone else here think the contour display is sort of gimmicky? cool yes, but really I'm not sure if I'd even like it. Google's next Nexus needs to be a world-phone, if they can make that happen I think they might finally get significant sales. Expectations of dual core make this phone a letdown.

This is a world phone. GSM is used in like 95% of the world and it accepts the proper bands used worldwide.

Glad I took the jump and got the G2 instead, loving it and I get HSPA+ speeds at home (5 MBPS down).

Now just to wait for the 2.3 port/update.
