And Google TV production is shut down for a month...

My brother got a Logitech Revue free from an Adobe conference and while it's kinda cool, it getting blocked from tons of streaming sites really sucks and pretty much doomed Google TV now.

Irritates me. GoogleTV is a great idea, angers me that the networks refuse to move into the 21st century.

The 21st century is that advertisers stop paying nearly as much per viewer because computer viewers aren't worth as much as TV viewers. You can't fault the networks for not wanting to move in that direction.

As usual, an entrenched industry doesn't want to shift towards a new way of doing things. Seems like they could probably revamp their advertising rates. Per show has the opportunity to be way more targeted via streaming sites (like with viewing habits) versus the mass ads for TV.

Anyone want to bet we'll start seeing Google funding original content from popular writers and directors and limit it to their devices?

People actually watch TV ads though. Advertisers aren't stupid, they know people aren't watching ads on their computer, they're off reading Facebook for 30 seconds instead. Plus many ads aren't nearly as valuable if are run at all times of the day; advertising ice cream at 8pm is a lot more effective than at 8am, for example.

But when streaming from network sites the ads are mandatory. Considering the 10-foot intent of google TV, are people actually bothering to multitask on it? I mean, why bother blocking it when they stream to PCs? It's just a lost opportunity from what I can tell.

Hint. It's not the networks, its the content providers. The companies that stand to lose the most from streaming content. If all programming (sans live sports for the time being) goes streaming, what incentive is there to pay for cable/dish if it is delivered for no additional cost via IPTV?

EDIT: And content providers pay networks dearly for that content. You can do the math.

If Google TV were A) cheaper and B) a full fledged DVR cable box, it would be worthwhile. As it stands, I just can't see the reason to spend that amount of money for a broadband WebTV box.

And with Comcast rolling out their new cableboxes with internet video and unified search, I don't see how GoogleTV can compete unless get hop aboard the CableCARD train and put an HD in that thing.

Which is why the networks hate you only slightly less than they hate people that watch internet TV over broadcast TV.:p
I tried watching Hula. But they have advertisements.
I've even downloaded TV shows I can DVR because the commercials are already removed and I don't have to "30 second skip" them.
I figure if I have to pay for it, there shouldn't be commercials.

(according to wiki) People with DVRs end up watching more TV. So from the network's perspective, it's probably a wash.

I barely watch anything live, except for sports.

I think we will see more advertising in the lower-third. Perhaps they will eliminate traditional commercial breaks altogether and go exclusively with onscreen/during show ads (including online/streaming shows). Instead of being limited to ~9 minutes per 30 minutes, they can get 30 full minutes of ads (though each individual ad will be worth less).

(I should really go back a read that again, but I am on my way out. I may edit it later.)

If I see an ad that looks interesting while fast forwarding, I'll rewind and watch the ad. I do that for most of the Apple commercials and sometimes the Windows Phone 7 commercials.

Yeah, basically this. Or I'll watch both Fox and CBS games simultaneously, cutting out all commercials (and huddles).
