Ancient history... Slot 1

So, I've come across a PII 450mhz slot 1 processor... with a blown motherboard. se440bx2 I believe... assuming I can find a replacement board, who built the best back then. Assuming I can find one...

Don't we all! ;-) Have a 233mhz running on the network but it won't handle the 450mhz. It's an AL440LX and just can't handle it... will have to dig around in my graveyard here....
What kind of board you have? Maybe a deal here!

I'm still using my abit be6-II 2.0 slot 1 board. It's gone through one RMA process and it's still ticking. I also had a SOYO BA6+ III before the capacitor issue killed it - but I didn't know about that issue at the time and got the abit to replace that board.

Thanks for all the input... good to see the old tech still in use! Now to track one down so I can put this PII 450mhz to work! Any ideas? I've found a few things out there on ebay, mostly seem to be old Gateway boards. Any other places to look?

I can get you a Jetway board that will support the chip. Realize it's not super cheap, and the quality is less than spectular, but it would work.

Conversly, I might be willing to buy the chip off of you instead, if you'd like.

None of those except for the lowest end refurb is super cheap. $79.99? That's what I pay for a current mobo.

My Soyo 6BA+III is still going strong in my sons rig with a Tualatin Cel 1.1A @1.38GHz🙂
Also got an Asus P2B with my old Cel 366@566 in it!.

Interesting ,I didn't know Soyo did that! ,though the prices aren't great ,I guess the BX prices are ok.
I see they still haven't updated there cpu support list!

Have you got more info about the cap issue for Soyo mbrds specifically?

The Soyo refurbs carry a full warranty and the work is done by Soyo.

Assimilator: They are a good source for obsoleted stuff.

Assimilator1, the caps used by a number of motherboard manufacturers had a bad electrolyte that slowly degrades until the caps develop pressure inside and burst/ooze out. My Soyo had this happen to it (in retrospect - based on the smell and how it started being unstable at boot before failure) and I threw it out. My Abit BE6-II 2.0 replacement eventually started to do that (could see swelling caps), so I pre-emptively RMA'd it.

I'd heard that Abit & Chanitech had been supplied bad caps ,my fathers Abit KA7 blew its caps after just 18mths! ,I only found out about repairs etc months latter by which time I had already binned the mbrd🙁.
I guess my Soyo mbrd won't last long unless I'm lucky!🙁 (nearly 4yrs old so far)
