anchoring down stair runner?

I have a stair runner that runs up our hardwood stairs and at the top of the stairs, due to a change in hallways width, it abruptly ends (about 3 feet past the top of the last step). Sadly, that end has come all but loose and I need to re-anchor it to the floor, but not sure the best method. Do I just staple it down or ???
