I hate science, I always have. It's my worst subject, I just cannot get myself into it, and I have been trying. And to be a nurse, you have to take A & P. So, I am, and every Tuesday I end up just praying someone will shoot me. :p

Trying to remember all the different parts of the cell, active and passive transports, and what cell respiration is, is slowly driving me bonkers. And this is only the 3rd week! I have an exam on Tuesday, I have been studying so much, but I still am not sure I am going to pass this.

I now greatly admire anyone who majors in Biology or any of the other scientific fields out there.

So, does anyone have any tips, on studying, or websites, that can help me? I have gotten 90's and 100's in all my other classes, but I am scared to death I am going to fail this one.

lol, why, you offering? ;)

I know a thing or two about it. the best way to learn something is hands on experience. ;)

Yeah, but remember, I am a redhead. I am below your standards. Sure you want to lower yourself?

:p

Have fun with that, lol. We covered that entire Marieb(? author) book in 5 weeks.

Have you gotten to the nervous system yet? :Q

Leave it to some horny atoter to turn this thread into something sexual...

I suggest making flash cards, lots of repetition of the material.

One method is to basically dedicate one page or up to a certain section. Learn it in one day, then the next day, repeat that section and go a little bit farther. Then the next day go up to the previous days section and go a bit farther. So on and so forth until you have the information down. You really have to focus yourself and your mind.

Good luck!

I actually took this as an Honors class in high school. The teacher was awesome at it. He gave us a chapter notes outline that we had to go through the book and read to find the answers for. Afterward I would memorize the notes.

He then pitted student against student in this points system where he would ask a question to the class and the first one who raised their hand would get called on. If you got the answer right you got a point. If you got enough points you didn't need to take the test.

Got an A in the class!

I did the flash cards, and so far, so good with that stuff. Our teacher however, asks questions of the class. What does he say to me?

"I haven't discussed this yet, and its not in your reading, but Colleen, you can reason it out. What is cell respiration, and what does it do?"

If we haven't gone over it, and its not in the reading, how the heck am I supposed to know this stuff?

911: I think our book is Mosebys, or something like that? Not to mention that he just throws random stuff out there, I have pages and pages of notes, on top of all the reading.

<edit> Nope, no systems yet, we are still just covering cells, and just the basic systems, knowing what they are. Next week we start actually doing them one by one.

He said respiration not persperation.

A&P is nothing but a lot of memorization. Get organized and methodical. Take good notes from the book then memorize them. Not a lot of background necessary.

I knew a lot of Jocks who had to take this for their BS and none of them had the slightest idea of how to study. I think one of them is still trying to just get a 1 to pass.:D

What is cell respiration, and what does it do?
The process of breaking down glucose (mainly) to form ATP I believe.

Think of it as how we breath in air and use it, the cell takes in glucose and breaks that down for use. I think that is what he is looking for you to explain, who knows.

Ugh...I remember learing about eukaryotic and epithelial cells in my HS freshmen bio class. :( I feel your pain!

Hehe, I used the breath in in and use it, he said I was on the right track. Just didn't remember the ATP part dammit. :p
