First, some background. I do not own an iPod or have any familiarity with iTunes. I personally use a Muvo2 that doesn't require anything more than Windows Explorer.

So I have a friend that does own an iPod and apparently isn't exactly thrilled with iTunes. She isn't tech-savvy and asked me if she could use any other software, particularly if there was something that allowed use of Windows Explorer or similar.

A quick search of the 'Net yielded a fair number of hits for Anapod, EphPod, and YamiPod. So I would like to know if anyone makes use of these programs or has something even better not mentioned.

Thanks.

do any of those have the auto album art downloading that iTunes 7 has? how about the podcast/video podcast collections?

i'm just curious because i'm thinking about DLing IT7, but would consider one of the OP's listed programs.

anapod kicks the crap out of itunes.

It'll download art and convert files to many preferred formats before loading on the device as well.

used to use ephpod, before itunes existed (when it apple used musicmatch jukebox), but it was sort of bland. it got the job done for sure, and it also let u copy music from ur ipod to ur computer, unlike most other programs.

I've had Anapod for about 7 months and I LOVE it! Definitely worth the $25 or whatever it may be now. Plus you get upgrades for life (or until they stop updating the product ;)).

I use iTunes, and have no problems. Only thing you have to watch out for is iTunes 7. Don't download or upgrade to that version. You can prolly find iTunes 6 on oldapps.com. As for getting songs of the ipod, download sharepod.

As always...I usually wait a few weeks when updates come out before snagging them, by then the first wave of "gotta have it" users have identified the bugs and the company (especially Apple) is pretty quick about getting it worked out.

personally for just music i'd use MediaMonkey... but for videos and full ipod control ANAPOD is the best there is!

i have an ipod mini. i do use itunes but only for putting songs on there. since i only have 2GB os music, i just put everything on it. i rarely use itunes but it's ok for just putting music on. and Killerme33, they released an update to itunes. version 7.0.1. much more stable. it's what should have been released first. anyway, what wrong with using Winamp with the ipod plugin? or just use anapod. it's good.

Anapod without question. I used Redchairsoftware when I had my Zen, again when I had my iPod, and will again when I buy my next DPA.
