Anandtechs Best Rigs...

A while back last year i did a thread (Now archived) about the best Rigs AT has to offer. I figured we should do it again with all the Dual Core processors and what not out there.

So who has the best system out of all of us?

Definitely not me!

AXP 2500+ @ 2150 (215x10)
1024MB Corsair Value Select PC3200 2.5-3-3-12 (215mhz)
MSI VIVO 5900XT 450x 762
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe

Need i go on 😛

My system is in a state of disrepair. But my 1337 laptop is rocking me right now. 😛 I don't think it'll win any prizes though.

If we include peripherals I think I could be in the running, but as far as my rig goes.... not really

A64 3200+
1024 corsair value select
6600gt
Soltek k8t pro
HDA X-Mystique
down to 3 WDJB drives (from 5)
430watt seasonic

attached:

Onix Rocket Ultra 550MKII Hometheater speakers
SVS PB10 ISD subwoofer
Infocus screenplay 4805 DLP projector
Pioneer 1014 receiver
4 aura bass shakers 😛

Looks like I'm in the lead so far though hehe. (if Megatomic's doesn't count... not working?)

So far out of the people that have replied, mine is probably the best. It's in my sig.

EDIT: didn't see jello post, well it's still a close call.

I would guess Clarky01:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+
Asus A8N-SLi
Kingston HyperX 2GB (4x512MB) DDR PC4000
XFX GeForce 7800GTX Extreme Edition 256MB GDDR3 (x2)
OCZ PowerStream 600w ATX2.2 Power Supply
Maxtor MaxLine III NCQ 300GB 7L300SO SATA 16MB Cache (x2)
LaCie Dupli Disc DVD121 8 x DVD±RW
Sony DDU1613 DVD-ROM
Coolermaster Hyper48 Cooler

No Megatomic has you beat, if his system is working again.

YoYo... that is an impressive peripheral setup. It must sound incredible!

Everyone has a fast system so far, but to really be in like the top 100 or so, you need Dual Core (or Dual Processor) and SCSI. Also a 6800GT and X800XL are probably the lowest video cards for the top 100.

holy crap, thats f***ing one fast machine

Yeah... however, those guys that are running huge SCSI arrays with like 4gig of RAM i think have him beat.

Its only a matter of time before one of them posts... i hope.

No doubt though... Clarky has a blazing fast system. (Probably close to the top 100)

😕 what are you smokin, give me some

More like top 5, the fastest dual core available, 2x the fastest GPU's available.

By the way hard drives don't mean crap unless your talking about server apps.

Yeah, I'm very happy with it.

I had a guy and his brother come over today that wanted to hear the Rockets before they bought them (they're internet direct).

They were looking at some other much more expensive stuff....
B&W 704s,703s @ $2200/pair, $3000/pair
Vantersteen 3As @ $3500/pair
Paradigm Studio 40s,60s @ $1200/pair, $1600/pair

They said they heard things in their demo cd on the rocket 550s they they couldn't hear in the other sets.
They were quite impressed to say the least.

Best of all the Rockets are only $699/pair right now 🙂

They wanted to just get a feeling for the rocket sound thinking they would go with something higher in price (like the RS850s @ $2000/pair), but they said after they heard how good the 550s were, they might just stick with a set of them and get a nice SVS to go with them, and acutally might end up getting the whole 5.0 rocket set like I did. At $1699 for the set of speakers it's cheaper than just about every stereo pair they were looking at still :Q

(ok, I'm done advertising for Onix now 😛)

Dual core or dual processors + 7800GTX SLI is what you need to reach the top. All depending on which kind of speed you need.

A RAID-5 SCSI U320 system will chew out far more numbers than a non RAID SATA rig. Additionally, a lot of guys have 4gig of RAM. (RAID card with PCI-X (64bit 133mhz) is the stuff we are talking here)

Clarkey's system is bleeding edge consumer level. As i said earlier, PCI-X, SCSI RAID are an absolute must.

Like i said probably in the top 100, but people with SCSI systems will tear it up. And, you forget there has to be at least 1 person with Solid State Drives in here, which would chew any of these systems up in I/O.

I just got my CPU and motherboard today and won't have my 6800 until Monday. And tonight when I was reassembling my rig I found that my 80GB drive, the boot drive, is unbootable. Knoppix sees the data on it so I'm hoping to attach it to another machine and scavenge my Thunderbird profile off of it.

Now I have to find another drive. I don't want to spend money on a disk though. 🙁

My old s754 3 Ghz OC, just thought i'd throw this in.

Well, some people definitely have me on proc, but with windows reported 4 processors from my dual Xeons running HT, I'm doing alright. I think my machine can kick some ass though...
Tas.

EDIT: Gamingphreek: check out my first pic. 🙂 5-disk RAID 5 in a PCI-X controller rocks!

Woohoo! I just checked and my drive is still in warranty. I'm gonna get an advanced RMA. I should have a replacement within a week!

Excellent!

Tasburrfoot... i posted in your thread. That is one hell of a system. That would give any U160SCSI a run for its money. Even so i would think you are definitely in the top 100. However i didn't pay attention to your Video Card or anything.

I would think Rollo has a nice system, but i dont think he has the HDDs and some other stuff.

I updated the blog so that my machines specs are on the right... Guess I should have done that earlier. Oh well.
Tas.

Bah! Who needs a fast machine? How many of you can say your computer is inaudable from 1 meter?
