Hey all,

I've seen a few posts in the last few weeks asking for silent case recommendations and I wanted to get an idea of what Anandtech Cases & Cooling thinks is king of the hill.

I've listed 'Other' as well, please post what you like and why.

Cheers,

Lsv

Don't forget to add the fortress 2.

Even though the Fortress 2 is sound dampened on the back panel it has a huge window that does not help with sound dampening. Every case listed is closed off and damped on both panels.

I can't seem to edit the poll :|

i like the fractal design define XL starting with the $150 price tag you get a lot of features it is a full tower case bottom mounted psu with the cut off. tons of hdd bays which are all removable if u needed the space for long graphics or watercooling in the bottom, comes with a fan controller that u pop on the extra bracket on the back of the case sufficient cooling for any system with a more professional look then most full tower cases, dust filters are a small bonus and the cable management is well done. i also like this case to customize just take the white steel parts and get them coated to match your color scheme if you know someone with a sprayer it shouldnt cost more then $45 for a high quality paint.

I have the 550D and it is freaking awesome. I don't see how a case could be any better. It's significantly quieter than my previous watercooled build.

P280 or even the new corsair 600D is rumored to be very quiet as well, check that one out, it's got very very good design.

I voted for R3, but I'm biased. However, if bang for buck quietness is what you're looking for then it's a contender for sure.

on the top right of the poll box do you see 'edit poll' or is that a mod only function? i can add it if you don't see it.

Can't see it, please do so! My bad on missing it, I honestly though it only came with a window. Now I want to try one out 😀

I voted Antec P280 because their quality control is pretty good. Every Corsair case I bought had some kind of defect, it really gets tiring when you have to RMA or constantly ask for parts to make your case work. Also the 300r I bought had some serious ground issues.

If I were being offered one of these cases for free (money being no object), I'd definitely like to try the Silverstone FT02. For the price though the R3 is probably a safe choice.

After months of minor tweaks and adjustments, I've finally got my R3 to the point where I can say it's *almost* completely indistinguishable from background noise; I'm not sure I can tell if it is on or off from my chair (I'd need to get someone to give me a blind test).

Of course to achieve this I've had to spend a fortune on quality fans and suspend my WD Green drive with stretch magic.

That's how my R3 is right now. I have the fans a little higher than normal, around 500rpm versus the 300 or so they were at during winter. Sometimes if I forget my AC my cpu begins hitting 70c load and that just seems too high for d14 + stock i7 920.

I voted R3 for money but in reality any of the cases listed would require some fan controlling and fan replacement no matter what.

Also thanks ElFenix for editing the pole.
