Across the full range of capacities, Samsung is trying to continue charging a premium that their product no longer justified, because the alternatives are just as good. 30¢/GB should be about the upper limit of pricing on the 860 EVO, instead of being the lower limit.

I will be buying a 1TB SSD soon, and for the first time in many years, it won't be a Samsung (unless they lower their prices to be more competitive against drives like the Crucial MX500).

Agree about the pricing. For SATA SSDs, the MX500 and WD Blue 3Ds are stellar values. Keep an eye out over at Staples. Out of all places during the holidays they had a sale that reduced the price of WD Blue 1TB down to $160 and I also was able to pickup an m2 Nvme 250GB 960 Evo for ~$85.

I'll keep an eye out for a good deal, but as sad as it sounds, I'm okay with paying $259 for a quality SSD after how bad their pricing as been over the last 18 months or so. Hopefully a retailer will have the 1TB MX500 on sale for around $230ish, and I think that will be enough to pull the trigger. I would wait longer for a great deal if I could, but my oldest son has his 500GB 850 EVO filled to almost 96% right now, and it is starting to tank the performance of it.
