AnandTech review is up.

I'm 100% sure I'll grab 3850 when it drops below $160, It'll prolly b $150 just after christmas. Then again, I dunno 😛

Should have! Since it will compete in same price range as 8800 GT 256MB

yeah, 3850 looks strong for now but I'd wait and see it compared with 8800gt 256. anand mentioned that nvidia shipped "hundreds of thousands" of boards to partners during 8800gt release week, we should start seeing those bad boys in the next couple of weeks.

This is so confusing...Firingsquad shows 2900 basically equal to 3870...while others show different. And lol, in CoH, 2900 and 3870 beat EVERYTHING...including the 8800Ultra.

Are these cards available in retail on the 15th or the 19th?

I can't find one yet, but I'm looking just in case.

If they're 249 + shipping at launch and start creeping up then I'm probably going for 8800gt. If they're 219 and stay there then amd here I come!

Wow, seems like ATI priced their cards right; I may seriously consider the 3850/3870 if I had missed out on the initial 8800GT rush. They're priced so ridiculously now that it makes the ATI alternative even more appealing, and from what the HardOCP review says, the 3850 is simply downclocked from the 3870...just strap on a more adequate cooler and you have yourself a 3870 for $179!

taltamir:
Low resolutions perhaps..256MB for frame buffer ain't enough (In some cases 8800 GT has hard time because it has only 512MB vram)). G92-8800 GTS 512MB will have some great specifications, but that frame buffer will become problem. 8800 GTS 1024MB on other hand could be Nvidia's anwer for HD3870 X2.

(And we will return to those days when Nvidia's $400 offering has TDP value of 140W and AMD's offering has TDP number which is close to 200W.)

yes, 8800gt 256 will probably outperform 3870...at 800x600.

what do you do exactly for nvidia?

@syntax error: 3850 is currently only 256mb, however. wait for 512 mb version if you plan to strap on a good cooler and oc to 3870+ levels.

In price, they are roughly equivalent. It just shows how Nvidia kept the 8 series cards at a price premium, even a year after release. ATI's new offerings should be a fresh take on performance increases for the next generation of cards for the roughly same price.

A slap-in-the-face for Nvidia, for the 8600GTS' price does not justify its performance at the time. It's worth like a $99 card, but in many places, it's $150-160.

8800 GT 256, if priced correctly could bring some serious trouble for HD3850. Initial sources say that they would have similar price.

..and IF Anandtech's story is right then there will soon be huge amount of 8800 GT cards (Said that at 8800 GT's launch week hundreds of thousands boards did go to final production stage).

(But if you ask me G92-8800 GTS launch (if it does happen at Dec 3.) would be paper or semipaper launch). Let's see what price Nvidia will have .. originally they were talking that initial reference price would be $250, but when this first "blast" is over and there is more cards at stock this price would drop to near $200
