Note that the 4200+ and 4600+ should run a little cooler and overclock with lower voltages than the 4400+ and 4800+. More L2 cache = more transistors = more heat generated = more power required.

Their article didn't mention a lot of performance variables. For an overclocking article, I find it a little troublesome that they couldn't spend a few extra minutes and be more thorough.

How about telling us:

What BIOS they used
What voltages were used besides just VCore
Was it setup in a case or in an open-air test bench
RAM timings
LDT ratio
etc.

Their article was basically "here is a 4200+, we used this heatsink, we got 2.7GHz at 1.55v, here are some benches, goodnight".

So what would be a better OC then the 512kb or 1mb cache? jpeyton got his 4400+ up to 2.6ghz iirc. Maybe it would be better to get the 512kb cache and clock up an extra 100mhz?

I got mine up to 2.7GHz as well; check the edited results.

HAHA. I wasn't trying to race or anything. I figured you all would say something about me posting so soon. The 4200 stock is pretty good anyway.

On water. I got mine to 2.56 on air, and maybe higher later.

Edit: Duvie pointed out that with "ONLY" a 380 True power PSU, I might actually need a bigger PSU. one HD, and a 9600pro fanless video card, but those two cores OC'ed that high might actually be pushing my PSU. May try a 430 true power from another rig when I get time.

I don't have a watercooler, you're thinking of another member who does (he also posted in that thread I believe). I'm still using the Zalman; 2.7GHz, 24 Hours Dual Prime Stable.

We had two 4200+, but no 4400+ or 4800+. One was AMD supplied and one was a
retail purchase. Both 4200+ performed within 5MHz of each other in
overclocking.

Sounds like you might be able to hit the 4800+ range on Air at least.

It looks like every 4400+ is hitting at least 2500 on air so the 4400 is definitely a great buy at 600 and overclocked to faster than stock 1000, LOL. Of course, if the 4800 overclocks higher ...
