An article about budget processors is currently the second story down the page:

Can the servers handle it? ;)

Slashdot is evil. They know a lot of servers can't handle the load, yet they still link. I have seen those "genius pioneers of tech and open source" link to Geocities pages. It is very common knowledge that Geocities pages only allow around 6MB of transfer.

If you truly have an issue with slashdot - then I kindly ask you to remove your hands from the keyboard, and pull the plug on your computer and ask your mommy what to do next. Thank you, please drive through.

I was just thinking the same thing. I've gotten so out of touch with hardware as I've been quite content with all my setups for awhile even though they're all fairly old. My main system still plays most games I throw at it without any problems (sometimes have to adjust settings a little), but I know once the new wave of games hits next year it'll probably start showing its age.

I was thinking about going ahead and upgrading to a P4-platform and was thinking about just getting a cheap celeron 2.0 and overclocking it to 2.66 or something until I figure out which P4 I want to get later on. But it looks like my 1.3Ghz Tualatin-based Celeron (which has been a great little CPU) would be just as fast, if not faster, in games. Guess I'll have to stop being so cheap and pony up for a real P4.

Nah. I was just ignoring you guys. ;) One beneficial trait ATOT has helped develop in me is the ability to quickly wade through hundreds of lines of crap to find the occasional nugget containing some semblance of substance. Just to let them know they're not the only person interested in the original topic I respond in kind.
