I was wondering if there'd be any interest in Anandtech investment club? I'm not sure about details yet, we can outline those if enough interest in generated. We could share investment tips and promising stocks, or maybe even decide on an investment strategy together.

Reply in this thread, or PM me if interested.

I thought about that. Perhaps we can ask a few questions before members are let in to make sure they have some clue about investing. We could also put a $5 min on stocks. We can come up with a list of stocks and then go and do independent research on companies in question, posting the results here. Then we can vote on the winning stocks. Again, these are the details that we'll have to figure out.

I was actually thinking about buying some AMD shares for the past few weeks. The shares went up almost 10% in that period, however, I still don't consider it a good investment. The company hasn't been profittable for a while, it has debt, and one of it's biggest supports - Gateway, isn't doing too good itself.

So.....seriously, what's a good stock to look into for long term purposes? :D

How long is long term? Growth or Value?

2-5 years. What's the diff between growth vs value?? I'm a n00b in investment.

Stability & dividend vs high growth possibility (low vs high valuation). I would consider 2-5 years to be rather short term though. Your risk tolerant is important also.

I might be interested.
I was a member of one in the past and am currently a member in another.

Two good sources of info are:
Bivio which is an excellent way to keep the books.
Best to select a broker that is tied in with Bivio Account Sync

Another is NAIC

Yes I think there is interest (I'd say at least 100 members) but let's face reality:

1) This would be perfect as a private topic thread but pr0n & warez killed that :(

2) This is a computer hardware forum, not Hot Deals or Off Topic. While I would REALLY enjoy a good long stickied financial thread, I doubt it will happen.

3) FW has a great Finance forum, the other day I spent easily 2 hours there getting some great info.

Great idea. This way those of us who are in finance can be told we're idiots by high-schoolers who don't know the difference between an efficient market and their own arse.

Fool.com has some good info. A topic / forum on this would be cool.

I actively trade stocks every day and on average make about 28 trades a day.

I am currently up 494% YTD. I would be very interested in hearing everyone elses trades.

I'm considering pulling out of walmart stock that I own. Its finally back up due to good earnings but I really don't think it will go much higher. I wouldn't mind trying some day trading with some of the money.

i take offense to that. yes i am a teenager that trades in the stock market. Investment club sucks, everyone should do their own due dilligence. however a stock/finance forum is great. I agree with rossman, fatwallets finance forums is great.

AMD's not really a great buy right now. It's hovering right around the 50 day moving average. It's not a sell signal or anything, but there doesn't seem to be any special movement likely to happen any time soon.

No need to be condescending; there are plenty of people in finance who can?t beat the market.
