I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been seeing breaking news first on Off Topics forum before anywhere else. Princess Diana, WTC, storms, earthquakes, etc. So, instead of having a few hundred reporters like CNN, SJMercury, LA Times, working the streets, we have thousands of eyes and ears reporting for us at the Off Topics forum! Sure, a lot of posts don't pass through the crud filter, but overall, you're a very powerful news source!
 
LOL, I wouldn't exactly call it powerful. Maybye a thousand people at any one time are on here. Not the largest audience I've ever heard of.

But, it does me good, so I'm happy. 🙂
 
I agree with you Danlz. While at work I skim the ATOT page every once in awhile. If there is important breaking news, it'll be here. It's faster than scanning the news sites.

Plus the commentary is so much more stimulating.
