Anandtech Forums Down??!!! Oct 31 4:30 AM - Nov 1 12:00 PM?

Has anyone else been having problems connecting to the forums. I didn't see anything on the Anandtech page mentioning this, but everytime I tried to go to the forums it would time out. I looked at the hot deals forum and the last post there was around 4:00 in the morning on Halloween. Did someone play a trick on Anand for Halloween?

I started to feel weird and missed this community. In desperation I even went to FW to hear of some hot deals.

What's going on with this site. I noticed it has been a lot slower, but I never saw any unscheduled downtime like this before. What are the rest of you guys experiencing?
 
Had exactly the same thing. I've been trying to get on the forums all day, and have only just managed it in the last few minutes, and now I'm going home. :frown:

The buddy list, Full text searching have been disabled due to some performance issues with the database server. We don't know when Full Text will be back on.

We are also now imposing a limit on how many private messages you can keep in your history.
We have set this limit at 100 messages, you cannot send private messages after your history his full. You can delete your history either by date in the private message area or by user by going into that users history. You will NOT lose any of your messages, you just cannot send any more until you clear out your history. Some users have in excess of 10,000 private messages in their history, this step is necessary in maintaning forum speed.

thats an old announcement, about 2 months old.
 
Not only were the forums down... I also lost a few private messages from people on the forums. 🙁

So I had to get up to speed with replies this morning.. kinda sucks... and I really hope all is OK at Anandtech!!

Maybe they'll have an update for all of us soon.. they're usually speedy in things like that.

Looks like something went bad and they had to restore from the Oct 31 - 4/5am backup.
Everything between then and just now are gone.
 
When I came here a few hours ago I couldnt logon, when I checked how many users were logged on there were only 3, and only 3 registered users. No messages anywhere, just like the database had been purged.
 
My FS thread's Oct 31 updates got canned, as well as the people who posted in it. The server must have crashed, it's a good thing they have backups...

Nope, nary a word. It's like they're saying, "Maybe if we don't mention anything, everyone will forget about it in a few days."

We'll see what happens.

I had sent 5 people PM's yesterday before the outage - none of them are showing in my PM history. What did happen? I was getting withdrawl symptoms yesterday! 😉
 
My guess would be a DB crash.

They used to happen all the time, pre-FT, so some of us are used to that. Back then, though, we'd lose everything, not just a few hours worth of posts.
