Anandtech Forum Parser.. by me.. try it :)

I think something is wrong with the program that makes it run/load so slow. I have a DSL modem with data transfer lights on it and they rarely flash when the parser is running. I load the AT forums through Internet Explorer and the data lights on the modem flash like a strobe.

I've been getting the following error message when shutting down, seems to coincide with the installation of this program:

Runtime error 216 at 0003476B

It is still happening even after uninstalling it.

Help !!

Testing it now but as others have said the ability to look at other forums would be useful! I don't visit the hot deals or for sale forums because I live in the UK so the deals don't apply 🙂

guys, it runs slow because anandtech is slow 🙂 reason theres no network activity is cause anand sits there waiting to reply.. (my guess).. it doesnt put much load on the servers.. its loading 2 pages every minute.. which is probably less than you guys do regularly..

as for others im going to try to impliment more detailed connection activity.. try to find out why its just freezing..

morkinva i replied to your PM..

i may look into adding an option to select the 2 forums you want to browse.. after fixing it i may give it a rest for the time being im kinda sick of it 🙂

subscriber.anandtech.com is not slow for me, yet this program is when using the subscriber server.

sure, or for someone who's working on something but still wants to look at deals as they come along somewhere on their screen. bit picky are we?

I was wondering that myself. I didn't see any apparent reason that it would be more convenient than just using IE windows, or Opera which is even faster. I downloaded and installed it anyway to check it out. It wasn't loading after a while, so I closed it and restarted so I can time just how long it takes to load. I clocked the start at 11:58am EST and it's still unloaded 11 mins later. 😕

Thanks MrCide, this looks like a neat program. Unfortunately, I don't really read the Hot Deals forum with any real enthusiasm, so a parser for Off-topic may be something you might possibly make?

I couldn't get it to work until I set it to the subscriber server. Now it works well. Good job!

ima subscriber and pages in IE load instantaneously... with your program i havent been able to load a page and i have been sitting here at the "Loading... Please Wait" for 15 minutes now... Its not AT that is slow... hehe

ok now the program is just locking up completely... running XP Pro

The only way I could see that this thing would add value (if you figured out how to speed it up) would be if it allowed you to enter a bunch of keywords and have it only display those results.

For example, I don't generally participate in FS/FT, but I might be looking for a SCSI drive, I could add SCSI to my keywords. I might want to find a hot deal on a monitor, so I could add that to my keywords too (or even better, there would be a seperate set of keywords for each forum).

It's called Search...its at the top of the forum 😀

Yes, but rather than having to do 10 searches every few minutes to see if someone has added an item I'm interested in, this program could simply filter the results.
At least then the program would make something easier/better, right now it's easier to just use a browser and go to the FS/FT forum or the HD forum.

installs fine, then i get this message soon as i run the program:

"Component 'mscomctl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"

running win2k pro

I installed it just now and now every non-AT page refuses to load.... I guess I'll break my 4 day streak and reboot now...

When the program is running, I don't show any attempt by the process to even hit the site. It says "Loading...", but a netstat -a -n/fport shows doesn't list the process.
