Welcome to the Video Cards and Graphics forum. There have been some updates to the Moderation and Guidelines for AnandTech forums which can be found in Personal Forum Issues in this thread. Please read these important guideline changes.

One of the major changes is in how moderation will be done going forward. Moderators have a title listing the forums they moderate. They are able to moderate in other forums, but are encouraged to do so only in extreme and obvious cases of a violation or when a thread needs to be moved. Moderators are expected to remain in good standing with the community and uphold all of our member and posting guidelines.

Senior Moderators, who will also be noted by title, have jurisdiction over all forums. In addition to normal moderation, Senior Moderators are responsible for making decisions concerning permanent bans, advising moderators on actions, reviewing member complaints about moderator activity, and generally making sure moderation at AnandTech is run fairly and efficiently.

In addition to the Senior Moderators, The moderators for the Video Cards and Graphics forum are apoppin & keysplayer2003. These moderators were nominated and voted upon by the Senior Moderators and Administrators and have accepted the position. We welcome them to the team, and hope you will too. Congrats are in order :)

Please note: These, and all other moderators should not be contacted directly for moderation issues. Those should go to the Moderator account though Private Messages, or posted in Personal Forum Issues.

Heh. Two NV fans, and two who have repeatedly trolled, name called, and started trouble. Nice picks. :) Oh well, these forums were already going downhill.

Well, instead of trying to bait or insult new moderators, might I suggest you try to work "with" us in keeping this forum a bit more peaceful and respectful by keeping personal opinions and any bitterness toward other members exactly that. Personal. Anyone trying to intentionally escalate animosity or bait will always receive close attention from any mod. So try to help out where you can.

WTF??? IIRC Apoppin has and does use both brands...he is fairly unbiased (at least in conversation's I have had with him).

I reckon both Keys and Apop are good choices for moderator's...as long as the power doesn't go to their heads :p

Keys himself said he prefers Nvidia hardware, but I think Apoppin leans more towards AMD (or Ati in the past), he is DEFINITELY not an NV fan

Both apoppin and keysplayr2003 have expressed a desire (along with many of us) to see AT provide greater moderation in the Video Forums. I am looking forward to seeing more useful threads and less flamebait.

True, I prefer NV currently. Apoppin may still favor AMD, but we both have learned that each company offers great cards after all our benchmarking recently. But this stuff doesn't really matter. Members will not be singled out because of their hardware preferences, but how they conduct themselves. Nothing more. Nor should a mod be a target for his/her preferences.

@ Creig: Thanks. And well said. Things will get better and better as time goes on.

@ Stumps: Thanks man. Cute baby girl in your sig. Congrats!!

You w0t?!?!?!

If anything I'd say apoppin had a slight leaning to AMD/ATI. He was crazy enough to buy a 2900XT wasn't he. ;)

Good choices I reckon.

Anyone who thinks i am a "nvidia fan" hasn't been paying attention to my posts for the last 7 years ... what is in our respective rigs is always our choice ... currently, i have HD2900xt ... excellent bang-for-buck, imo; i also really like the 8800GTS-640M and will recommend it and liked the 7800GS which i have also recently owned and recommended - but that is still totally BESIDE the point to moderating a forum

i am not sensitive to what i am "called" ... name-calling has never bothered me here ... BUT i am intolerant of abuse directed at Keys or another forum member. ... that has got to end.

we did not ask for this position; i doubt our "in house" testing had ANYthing to do with it as the administration was unaware of it when they invited us - but we were both glad to do it as Video needs moderation.

we are also not the "final word" here ... the Senior Mods/Administration is ... we are accountable to them and to the membership and we hope never to lose sight of the fact that we are serving you.

I agree completely, as I mentioned in a previous thread, trying to bait the mods into bad behavior through name calling is counterproductive to the health of the board.

Ackmed - the mods are here to help us, through better oversight of the board. Let's try to help the mods by making sure that we remind each other that abuse isn't tolerated, long before they have to.

Let's just give keys and apoppin a fair chance to succeed.

Cheers.

I wanted sickbeast , BFG10K , munky and some other to be mods as they are more mature and been extremely acknowledgeable gpu enthusiastic. ;)

Apoppin will be a great mod for the forum and also he is not a Nvidia fanboy. Keys on the other hand is alright but show immaturity as he thinks hardocp review have no fault.

Aye, people who actually know what they are talking about should be mods.

You can have my vote. Things won't pick up until there is some real dx10. Maybe not than either.

are you not aware that there is "room" for more mods here?

ATF is planning for an expansion ... i am guessing they will double their membership in a year or two if they are successful.

think about it ... we have been "scaring" new members and posters away by rudely clamping down on their perhaps newly-formed opinions; i know for a fact that many regular members who feel free to express their opinion in every other sub-forum - will not even enter Video or P&N

we are currently equated with P&N ... frankly i think we deserve to be the JEWEL in the crown of ATF here ... what draws new members to sign up because we are a knowledgeable bunch of guys [and gals] who loves a spirited discussion but is willing to share - minus the personal attack and fanboy-immaturity.

Anyway, you guys get to vote for who you think will be a good mod for the tech forums. The Admin announced that the details would be forthcoming. The current mods and administration ALSO have a say in picking these new mods - so be nice
:D

heh, thanks ron
:salutes:

Oh, and I have to say I really trust apoppin and Keys.
Congrats!

That said can you guys put in a good word for me ;)
I haven't been as active lately but back when the x1900xt was the big thing, I was very helpful with custom bios, cooling, etc.

:)

Aye, people who actually know what they are talking about should be mods.

If you have a difference in opinion than somebody else, that doesn't automatically make you the knowledgable one and the other without knowledge. Tuteja thinks I'm immature for having a difference in opinion, and he still needs to show us EXACTLY how H review is at fault or what was done to make AMD look bad. It's all there in black and white folks. All settings shown. My own benches tells me the GTS is either dead even, or slightly faster than a 2900XT at equal settings, so I would imagine if I turned down AA a notch on the 2900XT in the games the GTS was faster in, they would be closer to equal. Don't get me wrong, the 2900XT is a very powerful card, and I imagine with newer drivers, it will only improve.

So for you Zstream, to think that I am not knowledgable about PC hardware, is a little weird. Or was that just something you felt you needed to throw out there in the heat of the moment? You tell me.

Zstream & tuteja - truthfully I think that being gpu-knowledgeable is not a particularly important requirement for being a moderator, even in a "Video" forum. [As an aside, I am *not* suggesting that either keys or apoppin are not knowledgeable.]

What is more important is a willingness to be considerate, thoughtful and fair, and to set and defend the expectations AT has for behavior here.

Extremely knowledgeable people are the people a forum needs to have in order to be relevant and useful. Good moderators are the people that a forum needs to attract and keep extremely knowledgeable people.

Keys - for all of the above reasons, I don't think you need to defend your technical knowledge base. I can only speak for myself, of course, when I say that I value your opinions and insights.

Cheers.
