I've not noticed any type of PSU coverage being done by AnandTech on a regular basis, if at all. Is there a reason for this? I know in the "Product Coverage" section there is no listing for PSUs. I hope in the future this will change, and we'll see AnandTech become an invaluable source for PSU information.

No, was hoping that someone from AnandTech visits the forums and might see this, personally I don't know if anyone that runs the website has any involvement in the forums.

Howard now I could definitely see how that might be the main issue.

I got a very prompt reply from him 🙂 They want to ensure they do it right having never done it before, and they want to include upcoming 1kw PSUs, so don't hold your breath, i'd imagine it will be a few months yet...
 
The problem with doing a proper PSU review, IMO, is that the equipment needed is large, expensive, and complex. Which is why I can't say that I fully agree with any PSU review that I've seen, though some are much better than others.

There's one or two sites that DO have the right equipment, my favorite being JonnyGURU's site - linked in my sog.

I'm not discounting thier reviews, but I would like to see burn in/elevated temperature testing and analysis of noise on the lines.

jonny does do hot (or at least higher-temp) load tests and measures ripple in his later reviews. Not quite sure what you mean by noise.
 
High frequency noise on the DC lines. Crappy filtering=more noise. More noise=less stable PC (and potentially dead HDs and stuff). Although not PC related, I had built a test fixture where we had to swap out the switching power supplies that I initially used for linear ones because the noise from how the switching power supplies caused problems.

I haven't read his reviews thouroughly for a while (since I haven't had to pick up a supply), but measuring ripple is definately the first step in looking for noise. I'll have to read through a few. Thanks.

Knowing the advice one gets in CPU and Video these days, people will be assuring you they are essential to run a p120/PCI ViRGE/32mb of ram in about 6months time 😉

IF you want to run a Voodoo, you'll need AT LEAST 2kW.

Or just review power supplies that most computer techies would use and buy such as something around 600W-800W PSUs.
I personally want a review done where it also test the noise of the PSU (fan) since I found out the GameXstream 700W is rather annoying compared to my previous PowerStream 520W SLI. Not too much louder, but louder than my case fans where as the 520W SLI was quieter than my case fans. I run my case fans at near or right at the minimum setting.
