Anandtech - can you do an article on Flash 10.1 and Netbooks?

Would like to see how the new drivers along with Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration affects usage of the current crop of Atom netbooks.

I haven't tested it yet but if an Atom can do 30+ FPS fullscreen Hulu, I think we're in business.

The new Atom N450, D510, etc from the Pine Trail family do not support acceleration on the new flash player. Pine Trail CPUs have the GMA3150 and as far as I know it's not supported. The 32nm Atoms, or ION/ION2 are what you're looking for.

Some Pine Trail netbooks can take mini-pcie cards like the broadcom CrystalHD chip, which is supported by Flash 10.1.

edit: I see GMA 500 is supported. So the first-generation Atom netbooks should work.

The first-gen netbooks used Diamondville N2x0 Atom processors, which were paired with the 945GM chipset, with the Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics. Only the few netbooks powered with Silverthorne Z500 series processors used the GMA 500.

Also, 32nm Atoms is a complete guess but ION is a good choice, along with NG-ION (ION2), though few, if any, use the second-generation ION yet.

Hope to have a Next Generation ION netbook in for testing in the next month. I can confirm that 10.1 final worked well with i3 IGP and HD 3200/4200. GMA 4500MHD worked at 720p, but 1080p struggles unless you have a ~2GHz CPU or faster (so old CULV is out). We've also tried to get a netbook with a Broadcom chip, so far with no luck. Maybe this is the month? 🙂
