Glance at this review, then read the comments, then go back and read it in detail, then go back and read the comments again, then shake your head in wonder.

The internet isn't short of people being upset at things, or at expressing their views with hyperbolic outbursts, but its unusual in my experience to see it as much in the anandtech comments.

I feel pretty much got a live and let live approach to Apple as a company/lifestyle choice/ecosystem (rather than their specific products). I think most people are broadly similar. I also know its easy to take shots at the biggest player in the game (Vitriolic Microsoft hate 15 years ago???) and some people like to see the popular stumble (especially if you're one of the unpopular).

But I still am amazed at the reaction to that article. Comments that are little more than diatribes against the authors wrists and photography skills. Entire comments the length of a short article that boil down to 'I don't like this so how can you'. Comments in ALL CAPS.

AnandTech reviews hundreds of products. Granted in the last year I can only see news and short form articles about android wear. I think this is the first big wearable review, but in that it still got lots of the anandtech details right. The screen was tested for calibration, there was technical details about how lots of the watch works. I'd have liked to see battery life charts but its not a huge problem. The design section is more subjective but I am not upset that someone else feels differently than I do.

I'm not entirely sure where I thought this thread was heading but wanted to just express my surprise about the reaction to the article.

I liked this from one of the comments:

Who cares about price, weight and size, when this product is crippled by a hopelessly defective design? You can't hook up a power adapter and external storage at the same time. You can't hook up an external display and external storage. Hell, you can't even plug in a thumb drive!

Can any smart watch connect to external storage? Is USB OTG supported by Android Wear??

This company is a major reason why I can't buy anything better than a 28nm video card. Not in 2014, not in 2015, and probably not even in 2016. Even that isnt exactly a sure thing. All because this company and its overpriced crap working in collusion with the Big Telecoms and their 2 year idiot plan financing. These companies are holding back progress sucking all the new silicon into a giant black hole vortex of totally wasted processing power trying to drive panels with more pixels than the 55" tv in my living room. In what world does it makes sense where a rinky dinky 5" device is pushing more pixels than a 55" tv? I call shens on the utter stupidity and farcity of it. It is a complete malinvestment, a bubble of epic proportions, and I cant wait until it blows up in this trash company's face.

Last time I checked AMD don't really make mobile graphics chips (ignoring their mobile APU's for a moment). They also have 3rd party fabs making their chips. As far as I am aware Apple, ARM and Qualcomm are also fabless (Samsung is a bit of an odd one here both producing their own, and others chips). Mobile devices run off batteries and benefit more (battery life and cooling) from smaller manufacturing process more than desktop GFX cards do (My assumption - I've got no data to back this up). The fab that makes tiny SoC can also make tiny GFX cards. The push for mobile enhances technology.

Fabs have limited resources (time and silicon). They are making more mobile chips, so can't make as many graphics cards. I guess if they made more desktop cpu's they would have to scale back mobile SoC. If they made more GFX they'd have to scale back CPUs etc etc etc.

I agree the push for massive resolution on tiny screens is a bit silly, but I can't see how that is detrimental to PC graphics card manufacturing. Making lots of smart phones might be, but not driving high res displays....

when I read those walls of text I seriously ask myself where people find the time to write such long diatribes about a watch.

The comment about the reviewer's lack of arm hair was done by someone who just looked at the pictures because he doesn't care enough about the smartwatches.

Err, you started the thread.
If you don't know, we are all lost.

I have a cheap, old and accurate, Japanese watch which tells me the precise time. I know I am here. I have an iPad for news and this stuff. Why would I want an expensive watch to bother me?

I believe its a testament to the average apple product user. These remarks, while childish, are pretty accurate.
