Anands Stress Test

So does this article prove that anatech is fighting nv news for the top fanboy site? No image comparison, no discussion of 6 x aa, they even found some unheard of res that the pro would not run at. WTF? The whole article sounded like an anti ATI rant. Vavle ripping 9800xt owners and so on. I expected much better than this....... and people here complain about driverheaven.

NVIDIA's 6800 GT seems to have a leg up on the X800 Pro in most tests (though this may have changed if we could have gotten our Pro to run 20x15). This is just further proof that (so far) the GT offers some of the best value in NVIDIA's lineup.

But they didn't bench a 9800Pro 256MB modded to 9800XT did they? No they didn't...cause they're scared that there's be hardly any difference between it and the 6800GT that's why. That's also why the 6800 was conveniently missing from the test...they didn't want to show that an older card performs just about on par with the new generation cards.

did you not see the 9800XT benchmarks? there is a clear difference between it and the 6800GT....

Who's scared? What the hell are you talking about?

*EDIT* Yes HeroOfPellinor, you've figured it out... Anand is actually an employee of nVidia... anandtech.com is even hosted on nVidia's own servers. They're in cahoots. They're after you Hero... they're after us all... (puts foil helmet on)... hey... sshhh... what was that? I think the men in black suits are here... off to the bomb shelter...

I'd have liked to seen the 6600 drivers used for nVidia as they're significantly faster across the board than the 6177 drivers.

Guys, the X800's and 6800's all ran well at high res with 4xAA and 8x Aniso, so it really doesn't matter. Just play and have fun!
That's what I'm talkin' about  Pissing matches suck!
But, but, but, where's the fun in that? What's that you say - games are supposed to be about fun? I don't understand that concept. I thought games were for showing off how fast our rigs are. 😉 😛

Seriously though, benchmarks are great to make sure your setup is running properly but beyond that it's a waste of time. I got my 6800GT in my system, benchmarked it at default and o/c'ed. It's running right about where it should be so I'm happy. That said, when I overclock it the only place I notice the difference in benchmark numbers so I run my card at default speeds. I'm not going to o/c it in games until I have to. 🙂

Looking forward to HL2... 😀

Do you mean in this Source Stress Test or in other benchmarks/games. I was running the 61.77's and am currently running the 66.00's. I picked up 1 FPS in the Doom3 timedemo and lost 6 points in 3DMark2K3. Didn't fix my problem with not being able to host a game of "Soldiers: Heroes of WW2" either... 🙁

Dont worry about the number of pipelines compared to the GT. Compare the price and then look at it from that perspective. For the same money the GT is the better buy. Even if it does lose by 3 fps at 1600X1200 4AA,8AF. Other games it is not the story.
It?s pretty typical to see the Pro beat the GT in a new DX game like HL2 with AA/AF -- one that NV hasn?t had time to optimize ?specifically? for. That was the situation in Farcry.

I still see the Pro beating the GT in the majority of DX benches with AA/AF. Since the majority of games are DX that offsets the GT?s advantage in OGL IMO. I?d say that makes the Pro a pretty good buy too.

The big advantage of the GT for hardware enthusiasts is that it probably overclocks better than the Pro and if you get them to Ultra speeds, people see that as saving $100 on a high end card. On the Pro side I see the 6AA and a pretty big advantage and virtually all of the X800Pro VIVO?s can be unlocked to 16 pipes.

Did anyone else try the Video Stress Test? I'm getting 49.3fps at 1600x1200 4AA/8AF, which is nearly identical to Anandtechs results for the GT using 61.77s. Thing is, I only have an A64 3200+, everything else about the same. I would expect an FX-53 to be faster.
