I don't see the logic there. OCZ proves time and time again that they are not a pleasant company to deal with. Do you remember when OCZ's CEO was angry at Anand for exposing the OCZ Core's terrible random performance?

As far as I'm concerned Intel, Samsung, Crucial and even Corsair have a much better track record. Why do we need to keep giving OCZ more chances and beta test their products at a cost of full a retail price?

~Six months after their initial release their products are good and reliable because they use early adopters as Beta testers. At least that's how its been for the Vertex 2, 3, and Plus. I wouldn't touch any of their SSDs right after initial release with a 10-foot pole.

They have very good pricing, though, so after their drives become reliable with future firmware releases they're a good buy.

Why do you think that?

I love samsung's speed/reliability/reputation/etc, it's just that it's been out for a while now. I'm surprised that it is still the best ssd out there (since the 520 has the stench of sf associated with it).

Sorry, I interpreted that the other way thinking you thought it was being over-lauded.

Work are having new computers all round and a new server and I am virtually insisting that each user has a 128GB 830 as their OS drive and the server has 2 x 512GB 830's with HDD's only used for the stuff we hardly use.

I agree with the 520 sentiments.

The only area where the 830 has a ? for me is UEFI/GPT support. Their Magician doesn't work with GPT and Samsung have advised to use the SSD with MBR. There is an updated Magician being released either this or next month which will possibly have GPT support. Have to see.

That rustle is probably the combined annoyance of shareholders realizing they weren't being told the truth as they thought they heard it. Still, there could be more to the story.

Doesn't look like there's more to the story. The only surprising thing to me is that OCZ somehow managed to keep the returns high and the quality low. Apparently marvell had that controller stock clocked at a lower speed for a reason...

That part is the one thing does not surprise me. Every major brand is having teething issues, since the tech is just so new and immature, but OCZ seems to treat customers as a last stage of beta testers.

No wonder the comparison between the M3S/P and V4 seemed so valid.

OCZ has placed capital behind almost everything stated on forums like these. I would even like to see a Sandforce controller without smoke and mirror on-the-fly compression, please no more solutions looking for problems.

Now that we have confirmation about an overclocked Marvell and newer Marvell with sneaky pre-fetching (and the term “Indilinx Infused” as something only a crafty marketing laywer could conjure lol) I’m sticking with my Plextor M3 and FancyCache. Vetting hardware is almost as much fun as using it. :)
