is there a logical reason WHY the 9700pro and 9800XT were used in comparison to the 9600XT while only the ti4200 was used along with the 5600ultra ?

the benchmarks therefore have a very ati skew even if the 5600ultra is on par in a couple of benches with the 9600xt... the 9800xt and 9700pro overshadow it...

to make things fair a 5900ultra should have been thrown in... IMO...

Please take your dumps in the toilet.

If you want the 5900 numbers then go back to the previous review. The 9700 Pro was in it because ATI said that the 9600XT would perform similarly to it. The 9800XT was in it so you have a comparison to a high end card. They will probably do the same thing with the 5700 in a few weeks except with the 5900 instead of the 9800XT. :p

if they did they'd get complaints from people they were trying to make Nvidia look bad. ;)

Ya know, since Anand uses the same benchmark programs, it would be nice to have a database (ala Sandra) where you could choose which cards you'd like to see compared. What do y'all think?

Well, Kevgravy, that's a nice idea. The problem is, tho, is that benchmarking is dependant on the rest of the components (mobo, cpu, ram). So all the cards tested would have to be tested in the same system, as the only variable, in order to make a comparison meaningfull. Usually, when a review is performing benchmarking, the absolute numbers aren't of value (unless by chance you have a nearly identical system), but the Relative values do mean something. You're usually just trying to see which thing is better than the other thing you're comparing, given that the rest of the system is the same. In 6 months though, when you go to benchmark the next generation of the product, you'll probably be using an entirely new system, so you can't make a direct comparison back to the original tested items. Make sense?

As for the 9600XT, I was waiting on this review before buying a new vid card. Now I see that they hype about the 9600XT from ATI was BS. It doesn't touch the 9700pro, as was claimed. It barely posts an improvement over the 9600pro. Blah. I'm disappointed.

Exactly. I was very hesitant before to support ATI's claim that the XT would match the 9700 Pro. Now there's concrete proof. Give ATI some whiskey so that when they eat their words they go down easier ;).

9800XT: As a reference for the top-end of the market. No point in cluttering the graphs with another high-end card like the 5950.
9700P: As a reference for ATi's purported claim of equal performance from a 9600XT. Think of it as a polygraph test for whatever marketer popped out that gem.

That was a pretty flimsy consipracy to dispell. Try harder next time. ;)

The 9600 XT should be available within a month.
Reviews for the 5700 are due out in the next couple of weeks if I remember correctly.
