For those who missed this article I had the pleasure of reading it. The full article is not available online unless you subscribe. Here's what they do have:

The Intel Updates: Atom, Nehalem & Larrabee

Intel?s been pretty active as of late with product and technology disclosures. For starters, we have the Atom processor. Intel?s smallest CPU is built on a die that?s less than 25mm2; by comparison, Intel?s 45nm Penryn-based Core 2 Duo processor has a 107mm2 die. Atom is so very small thanks to a very simple two-issue, in-order architecture, making it Intel?s first in-order architecture since the original Pentium. Unlike the Pentium, Intel?s Atom processor has the benefit of about a decade and a half of additional microprocessor research, enabling Intel to make such a small chip perform quite well for its size.

While I?m mostly excited about Atom?s smaller, more integrated future (check back again in 2009 or 2010), I am particularly impressed with a single demo I saw of Atom earlier this year. Intel had an Atom system running Windows Vista and playing a game of Unreal Tournament 2004. The game was running off of the Atom platform?s integrated graphics (a PowerVR SGX core) and at very smooth frame rates. Now, nothing about what I?ve just said is particularly impressive until you realize that the CPU and chipset were running without a heatsink. The surface temperature of the CPU was aro....

Around 35C!!! Thats very impressive for no heatsink/fans! He goes on to talk about Nehalem and its Quickpath technology (on-die memory controller) which should show considerable performance gains. Also mentioned is Larrabee which is not expected till 2009/10 and will probably perform better with optimized software. I for one am very excited about the Atom and Nehalem processors. Larrabee is less exciting IMO.

Just think of how hard we can overclock that bitch when it has water cooling :D

Pretty cool we Anandtechers aren't worthy of reading Anand's thoughts about Intel's tech without subscribing to a non-Anandtech business entity. It's an honor really.

Eh, I understand the feeling. Heck, I'd trade all those recent articles about cameras, consoles, and other things I'm not interested in for that one article about the upcoming Intel stuff.

To be fair to Anand, wasn't everything in the quoted section of the article already in April's 20-page preview of Atom. Even the mention of the naked Atom running UT2004.

CPU Magazine probably pays Anand to write an article for them. They are just protecting their product.

Surely I understand why business entities require registration to view their content...

My lament is in regards to the fact that Anand appears to be selling his views/insights to them rather than selling them to us directly thru his own Anandtech website (where presumably he makes money by all of us anandtechers giving him the page hits and ad dollars for clicky-cliks on the ads).

It's like having a subscription to New York Times only the NYT's journalists decide to freelance themselves out to the Herald for a day so when you get that day's NYT's all it reads is "please register for a subscription at the Herald if you'd like to read the latest from your journalists at the NYT's..."

Uh...if I wanted dam subscription to the Herald I would be there way ahead of you.

Um... we've already heard a lot about all of these processors right here on AnandTech. This article was written for a paper magazine, which is a month behind the times. I highly doubt it includes anything that you and I don't already know.

I'm thrilled that our favorite site/writer is well enough known to be approached by other companies.

uh, idc, I understand what you mean, but all of that is old news as foxery mentioned. I think that it's great that anand is that highly thought of in the high-tech world. of course, anandtech is one of the few legit high-tech web sites left that haven't sold out (cough *toms* cough).

This is old, I looked through some CPU magazines at my uncles house from a while back and he was writing for them. CPU is a good magazine, though.
