Analogue DVI to Component

Hi guys,

I have an old CRT 4:3 TV with an RGB component input available through SCART. I bought a DVI-I to RGB cable today in order to run the DVI-I output of my computers graphics accelerator to the TV and use it as a secondary monitor. I wasn't sure if this was going to work, and, well, it doesn't; I have my computer providing a 640x480 resolution to the TV so it should be 'in range'. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can fix this? Or would I need a signal converter box?

Thanks in advance,

Chase.

That cable will not work. The RGB signals that VGA uses (which are integrated into DVI-I) are different from the RGB signals in component video used for televisions. You will need a converter box. (Caveat: I am not terribly familiar with SCART, so there may be other means of adapting the signal.)

The required converters are somewhat expensive, so you may be better off buying a new HDTV with HDMI input.

Here is a guy with a tutorial on building an adapter DVI-I to SCART:

Wish i had asked here initially, asking around 'other' forums I just got told it would work fine because it's an analogue signal, which I thought was dubious at best.

Thanks for your reply though, you're been a big help ^_^
