Analog to DVI

I have two monitors (both analog VGA) and I would like to use dual monitor using just one card (I have Radeon 9800 PRO) I know it has two input one analog VGA and one DVI. My question is, I always thought the converter only converts DVI to Analog. Can it go the other way around so I can use both my monitor (plug one on analog and the other on DVI using converter)?

Sure can, I just did the same thing last night. That converter works both ways, just flip it around and you're good to go.

The converter comes with the video card.

i just recently had to convert video that was analog to dvi, but since i didnt have a converter, i had to resort to my tv tuner. first, i had to get a vhs adapter for my camera's mini tape, and then i connected the vcr to the computer and then i just recorded all the data to the harddrive. if you want to conver dvi to analog, you cant do that unless you got a digital analog converter.

Anyway, how many kinds of this converter are there?

which one is the one people use? I have Radeon 9800 PRO (it is OEM, that's why it doesn't come with the cable), a DELL LCD (analog) and Samsung CRT

This thread is confusing. Lets be clear here:

*You want to run 2 analog monitors off a Radeon 9800 card.
*You want to use the DVI adaptor to run an analog display.
*The adaptor converts nothing, it simply contains both analog and digital pins. It works 1 way only, on a DVI-I port to connect an analog display using a d-sub cable (VGA) It will not work the other way around, nor will it work on a DVI-D port to power an analog display.
*To be sure it works, buy one from ATI, any DVI-I>VGA adaptor "should" work though.

The adaptor (not converter), of course. Note:

MANY cards that have DVI + 15-pin DSUB VGA can not do dual analog output. The 15-pin DSUB VGA port is simply an integrated DVI-to-VGA converter dongle that leaves the DVI port available as a second DVI-only display. The card only has one RAMDAC that is wired to both the VGA outputs on the DVI and DSUB connector. The card would require two for dual-analog output but doesn't require any for digital DVI output so this is why they decided to free up the DVI port when using analog. Normally, DVI is dual-function as both a digital port and a standard analog port (DVI-I) and simply needs and adapter to fit a VGA cable to it. In this case, the DVI port would be blocked while the connector is used only for analog VGA with an adapter. Using the integrated VGA connector frees the DVI port for a true digital use ONLY (Unless you want two monitors outputting the same damn thing ) You would have to find some sort of expensive (VERY) transcoder to convert true DVI-D to analog. I don't know if your card has this limitation or not but past Radeon cards have. I'd look for a dual-DVI card and check the reviews to make sure that they are both DVI-I and not DVI-D + DVI-I.
