If you had the choice between the Abit AN8, or the DFI NF4 Ultra-D which would you choose and why?
AN8
DFI

I've heard about a lot of compatibility issues with the DFI, and stability issues.

Can't comment on the Abit, but I've had a Ultra-D for over 3 weeks w/ zero problems. check sig for components used.

Just plugged in 1 hard drive 1st then installe XPsp2 and nforce 6.39 w/ nvidia video drivers 71.80 beta's. Everything worked, then added 3 addl. drives.

Then used partition magic to setup a 12g Linux partition. Then installed RH3.0 4th release, everything was detected correct.
Currently running w/ the initial bios, afraid to flash to the latest bios because everything works fine..
I had the worst luck w/ my other mobo (a8n-sli), maybe soon it will be resolved. Still waiting for a rma'd DOE board.. :(

Personally I think the Ultra versions are less problematic then the sli versions. There is a new Asus A8N-E that may be nice.

The only reason I got the asus mobo instead of another DFI, is that I needed a parallel port. (Linux) Now I wish I'd have
gotten a Tyan k8W opteron mobo....

Good Luck,

Regards,
Jose

I'm considering the Abit AN8-V , and would appreciate comments from those
who have used it.

I am not Jose, but I doubt he had an issue related to it since he's using Antec 550EPS for his rig.

I could not find this board for sale anywhere, where are you from? What is the pricing on it compared to the other AN8 boards?

Thanks. :)

I'm from Canada. Locally the price is $200.00 Cdn ($167.00 US).

I think this board is a stripped-down Fatal1ty - without the Ramflow.

I'm not an overclocker.

If I was going to build an A64 system the AN8 would be my choice, Abit never puts me down.

No issues w/ my power supply, it's the 550 EPS version which has 36A on the 12V rail and is a native 24pin psu.
