New install, ABit AN7 with AthXP3300
Bios is latest, Dated 3/24/04

Post code display was staying on 2.0. after full good boot.
Had two spontaneous shut downs last night while running Adope Photoshop Elements, building photo directory.

CPU temp per MBM5 is 53C--this appears to be too hot for no load, under load it's up to as much at 60C.

Post code now stops on 21--"HPM Initialisation, Notebook/Laptop mode---needless to say this is not a laptop.

Also it will cycle from 21 to 26---"

Task manager shows two processes that are running at 02 or 11 on the CPU: "svchost and system" seem to be cycling in usage as the POST codes cycle from 21 to 26 and back again...it appears the CPU is running something in the background all the time?

At one point, it seemed that my firewire drive was taking forwever to initialize and report in so I disconnected it, but no change in Post code stat.us

Is it normal for these post codes to be reporting 21 and 26 all the time when before, after a good boot "20" was displayed and stayed that way?

Is the CPU temp truly "too high"? I have only a generic heatsink and fan. Case temp (Antec P160) is 30C and PWM is 38C. If too hot, I'm looking to get a Thermal
Right900, they say it will fit in case OK...

"Everything" appears to be running properly and other than two spontaneous reboots...nothing weird that I can see.

Running WindowsXP, 512 MEG Kinston DDR400, ATI AIW 128 Pro (old I know...), Antec TruePower550W Powersupply, CDROM and CDRW-USB2,

Thanks in advance, been lurking around here for weeks!!

Some additional symptoms that have popped up in the last day...
NO MORE Spontaneous reboots--MIGHT have been loose power cord--and NOT a CPU overheating issue.

Keyboard and mouse loose contact. Will not reinitialize if unplugged and reconnected.
SETI puts up dozens of icons in the systray after refreshing from screensaver.
Didn't go into monitor power off mode overnight...

I myself had an AN7 and once it booted up, the post codes went all over the place especially 26. I honestly think Abit screwed themselves up when they pushed AN7 with the all new uGURU which is absolute crap.

The first AN7 I had to return cause it would cause video curroption when it had a boot code of 20. Boot code 20 is not even in the book!!!

Needless to say, I got rid of the AN7 and got myself a nice new DFI Ultra Infinity.

BTW my AN7 would post my CPU ok but my PSU was riding 75-80C!!! No way it could be that hot. It is a fortran 530w. I put my had on the PSU it is barely warm and the automatic speed adjusting fan didn't even kick into high rpm. With my DFI with all same setup it reports my PSU as 38-45c. Much more like it.
