This just started happening last night. For a few days I've had the optical connection enabled, and the analog one disabled (not even connected), and it was fine. Then, last night and this morning, playing realmedia or mp3 files (didn't try others) was giving chopy sound, like every few seconds it would cut out. It wasn't my processor as far as I can tell; I have a decent machine and nothing else was running.
Any ideas? Worse comes to worst I'll pop in my old soundblaster live! 5.1 and disable onboard sound.
I haven't updated the BIOS from whatever version it shipped with, since it hasn't hd any problems until now.
