An Old Cruncher Died

A 59 year old cruncher died last night a little past 1:00 am. After fighting cancer for 11 years his body finally gave in and he passed away with me and my mom holding his hands.

esko started crunching SETI classic 4 years and a couple of weeks ago and joined the Team Anandtech in December 2001. Over the years he managed to finish some 8870 WU's and would've liked to have been around when the project finally ended but it didn't go quite the way we all hoped.

Goodbye dad, you will be missed.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Although after 11 years of fighting, I'm sure he was ready to go to a better place, with you and your mom there for support. Prayers to you and your family. His contribution to Team Anandtech and SETI is so very appreciated.

Its hard to lose a loved one, and a parent seems to hurt the worst. The one thing that makes it easier is knowing that they are in a better place. 11 years of fighting cancer... most don't survive even a few years...Your dad must have been a very strong and brave man.

Most folks would have given up long ago...he must have loved you very much. Very few would have attempted to live normal lives, crunching Seti and achieving the status he has, speaks volumes of his strength and character.

I am truly sorry for your loss, but I glad to know we had a man of this caliber on our team.

May he rest in peace, and may you find peace in his resting.

My sympathies .. and yet ... his was a great accomplishment. So many have never tried and his success speaks legions for the attempt.

Not everyone who starts will reach the ultimate finish but we treasure his attempt. So many have never tried and so we must honor his accomplishement.

I wish that he goes to a better place.

Please, my condolences and my prayers for your departed.

Thank you all for your kind words.

At least to my knowledge Esko didn't spend time on the AT forums as he found communicating through message boards too impersonal for his liking but I'm sure he would've loved the people here.

We were very lucky in that he had been well enough to be able to stay at home with his family right up to the end.

On Monday afternoon when he was sitting in the living room for the last time the sun was shining but ever since he passed away it seems that the skies have been crying with us.

P.S. Cherish your loved ones, life's too short and unpredictable to be wasted on meaningless things.

So sorry to hear of your loss MK4!

It hits home for me as I am 59. One never knows how much time we have left on this planet. Good luck and God bless!

Sorry to hear of your loss. Hopefully one or more of our distributed computing projects will help this from happening some day.
