An odd trend I've noticed regarding the racial makeup of the retail job market lately.

When I worked retail back in 2002, I think this trend was just beginning in my area. Of course, being of Middle Eastern origins myself I helped this along. :p

Lately I'll walk into a Best Buy, Radio Shack or furniture outlet and it seems that 80%+ of the employees are from the Indian subcontinent or Middle Eastern. Service itself hasn't seemed to have suffered much at all from the racial takeover and all that, so I'm not posing this as a rant or anything - merely an observation.

So, here are my two questions, one serious and one not as much:

1. Are the (vast) majority of retail workers in your area Indian (or another variety of brown skin)?

2. Where did all the (young) white people go?

The city I live in is about 51% black. I would guess that 90% of the retail workers are black.

How should I vote?

I dunno about retail overall, but I have noticed that all footlockers I go to, the employees are usually black people...actually, most shoe stores in the mall are like that.

Don't notice it really. Then again I don't tend to make a note of racial makeup in that particular instance. There is one common characteristic I notice about the men who work in furniture outlets though. They all seem to wear the same tacky style of sport coats.

In the SF Bay Area (especially at all Fry's), this is true. I now live in Raleigh, NC and here...not so much.

The racial makeup of the county was 97.03% White, 0.72% Black or African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 0.91% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 22.3% were of German, 16.6% English, 13.8% Irish, 11.9% American and 7.0% Italian ancestry according to Census 2000.

.72% black, .72% Asian - Yeah, I know those guys.

Nope, no Indians working in the local electronics store - that'd be Zim.
