I was just thinking, you know those portable VCD players that you find in the hot deals for like $50?
What would stop someone from replacing the laser mechanism in the vcd player with one from a dvd drive or even a cheap standalone DVD player off of Ebay?
The main problems I can think of would be finding a DVD laser mechanism that would fit the portable (but surely a hack job could be made) and also the power interface (although I'm sure some of you electronics wiz's could figure some kind of Ac-DC switch out)
I have some expierence with taking optical drives apart and minor repairing after the many Lite-On failures I've had (my hate for anything Lite-On is well documented) and I was thinking that this might be a cool project.
Any thoughts from the gallery?
