OK, here's the scoop. I haven't had much time in the last 18 months or so to do much with my system. I am trying to put together a frankensystem to play a little EQ on the weekends and I want to do it cheap. I am looking for a video card that will be SUFFICIENTto handle EQ smoothly (including the latest expansion). I don't need a screamer board and I am not looking for high FPS. Is there an older card that would be up to the task without being more than I need for this job.

That's all

This is still probably more then enough but a geforce2 gts-v looks to be the most cost efficient card, you could go with a voodoo3 or a tnt 2, but they don't cost much less then the gts-v. They say the recommended is any 16mb directx or glide supported card, so its really any video card made in the last couple years.

Visiontek gts-v 56 shipped.
Voodoo3 38 sh
Radeon ve 50 sh
Tnt 31 shipped
tnt2 m64 33 sh
Geforce2 mx200 45 sh
Geforce2 mx400 55sh

My P3 700E@933mhz and Radeon LE (stock clock but with HyperZ hack) runs EQ fine at 1024x768x32 (with the Luclin textures), so I figure if you have a >1Ghz processor (either P3 or Athlon), a Radeon LE should be enough. With EQ going to Hardware T&L, you should probably stay away from a non-Hardware T&L card now.

Here's info on how to do the HyperZ hack.

The GTS-V and the Radeon Le/Ve are probably the bare minimum that will do it. The geforce 3 ti200 is probably the cheapest card that will do it nice, as FSAA is good addition to EQ.

Careful: the RADEON VE is very crippled, and has no T&L processing, and only one pipeline. It will not be good enough for EQ.
