An mmntech Cool Story Bro: Finally got around to trying Five Guys

mmntech

After years of people on here raving about Five Guys Burgers, I finally got around to trying it. They just opened one near my work. I must say, I was unimpressed.

So what's wrong with them? Nothing really. Though I will say they're definitely overrated. The first tip off was they were using a griddle to cook the burgers. My bias, I'm not a fan of burgers cooked this way. Too greasy. The burgers themselves don't have a lot of flavour. At least they burgers are a decent size. Definitely feels like they're missing something. Fries were okay. Perfectly seasoned but a little on the soggy side. Double dunk people! Need to fry those bad boys twice.

I'd rate Five Guys as average. A small step up from McDick's and BK but nowhere near the best burgers I've had at a place like this. Certified Hero Burger takes that crown. It's not bad but they're definitely overrated. Expensive too. The $10 I paid for a cheeseburger and fries is a little much given the quality of the food.

big difference between Canadian and American chains. smaller portions and less grease. you did not get the full experience

I love their fries. Slightly soggy and salty Mmmmmm I also love that when you order a small they still fill up the paper bag with them.

I will agree that their burgers are only ok. I think its that people are comparing them with other places like McDonalds and Burger King. There are a couple of sit down mom and pop burger places around here that make much better much larger burgers for close to the same price

Try A&W double prime rib

I order double because you are assured a freshly cooked one.

Yes I have, and they are pretty great. I actually really like A&W.

Best burger I've ever had was at this place that used to be in Georgetown, Ontario, called House of Ribs. Hole in the wall. Guy used to inject his own, homemade BBQ sauce right in the burgers then grill em. Unfortunately he had no business sense so the place closed shortly after I discovered it. 🙁

one of the great things is they are greasy. every now and then i want a good greasy cheeseburger.

are there better overall burgers? yeah. 5guys is a little expensive (well compared to other fast food joints) but it hits a need.

I won't say 5 guys is amazing. but its not bad.

Just an FYI, you pay a lot for the burger because you can add almost any toppings w/out additional costs, it's already built in. So it's inefficient to just get a cheeseburger.

ew. bbq sauce and burgers do not mix.

Besides the obvious difference in taste between 5 guys and McD (and the others)....you have to realize the fact that their FOOD has actual nutrition value.

Noticed I said FOOD and NUTRITION. You will not get those 2 at your McDonalds or places alike.

🙂

I judge my food based on how I feel after I eat it. 5 Guys not only taste great but it makes me feel good >which tells me their food has good nutritional value.

Also, time it takes to go to the bathroom. If your body is going to break down the food and absorb it, it will take TIME.

Other crap goes right thru as your body uses/needs NONE of it.

And that's why MANY fast food chains should not be considered "food". Remember we eat to provide our food nutrition to survive....not to satisfy our taste buds (but that's part of it as well).

I give 5 guys A+

I love their mushrooms and jalapenos on my burger...

Oh, stop kidding yourself. McDonald's is food as much as Five Guys.

I've been saying it for about 2 years now, 5 guys is overrated.

For what you get, should be about $2 cheaper.

If you live in Detroit area, Bagger Dave's puts 5 guys to shame. Pretty much a better burger place in every possible way.

Agreed. Better burger (and burger options) worse fries though IMO (plus you seem to get about 3x as many at 5 guys)

I tried Five Guys after one opened up here in the Minneapolis area. It tasted awful and was really expensive. Would never go back.

Yeah. I put somewhere around 6-8 toppings on mine when I go there.

That's actually one of the reasons why I almost always use my phone to order. It's easier than me starring at the list of toppings, and trying to remember what I normally get. 😛 It's also helpful since I'm fairly quiet, and Five Guy is always so darned loud. I have to practically yell for the cashier to hear me.
