An LCD with decent built-in speakers?

I'm installing flat panel system in a home where aethestics are more important than functionality. Hence, I would like to avoid external speakers and keep a clean look.

The system will be used primarily for web surfing and watching television. No gaming, no audiofile mp3 collection, just web surfing and tv. I've only tested two flat panels with integrated speakers for tv watching -- a Planar 15 inch and the Toshibal MP. The Planar speakers were so tinny sounding that my head actually began to hurt after five minutes of listening. The Toshiba sounded great, but its designed to be a television, so that was expected. However, it's roughly twice as much as a "regular" flat panel and, in any event, I'd rather user a TV Tuner card for ease of watching tv and surfing the web simultaneously.

I'm looking at 17 inch flat panels. Has anyone encountered a 17 inch flat panel (other than a Samsung MP or MB) with integrated speakers decent enough to listen to TV without enduring a migraine? As I stated, I'm not expecteinghigh end audio (which will never happen with integrated speakers), just passable, non-painful audio.

Thanks

Thanks for the input, Tex.

I guess you referring to the N-80 or maybe the M-81? I couldn't find an N-81. If you are referrng to the N-80, that LCD looks nice, but it sure ain't cheap. :Q The M-81 is reasonably affordable, but something tells me you mean the N-80.

Uh...Tex, the reason it sounds so great is because you're actually hearing the music through that Altec Lansing sub system. ;)

Nice setup.

Yoshi:

I guess you're referring the 17.4 inch models, cause the high pitched, death-rattle coming out of the 15 inch Planar I just installed in a friend's house still gives me nightmares. My brother picked up a the 17.4PVR a couple weeks ago when they were $590 shipped from Dell. I'll get over there this weekend and give it listen. Maybe that extra 2.4 inches makes a big difference.

Anyone else have any recommendations?

Have you seen the cool LCD PC "Bare Bone" from Fry's Electronics/ outpost.com?
It's a 15" LCD flat panel monitor with a simple "chassis" built around the monitor.
It's about the size of a normal 15" monitor except that it has a mATX motherboard built in and has a 16x DVD ROM.
Fry's Electronics/Outpost.com is selling it with 256MB Value Select Corsair PC-2100 DDR, Seagate 40 GB 7200 RPM hardd rive and 1GHz Retail Boxed AMD Duron CPU for $899.
they should have it up at their site www.frysoutpost.com or in one of their stores (where I saw it ... working with Shrek on DVD)
it takes up little space and looks similar to the original iMac ... (yuk)

the speakers in the 17.4 are better....
if youre looking for asthetics, you could just pick up a pair of monsoons.. theyre flatpanel speakers which you could mound next to the monitor/on the wall
