An issue with a Garmin based nav unit

Is this the case with Garmin based nav units? I've missed quite a few turns because it didn't prompt me early enough about the turn.

I dont own one, so I cant realy comment on if they all do that or not. How long of a notice is it giving you?, most navs I've seen give a 500ft or so notice (side streets) or 1/4 - 1/2 mile on the freeway.

I used to have Garmin 200, and I don't think I missed turn many times. I actually was having trouble when I bought Mio Moov 310 due to its slow TTS, but once I got rid of TTS, it's been doing fine job.

So, turn off TTS if yours supports it. Otherwise, well, drive slower?

yeah my parents Garmin C340 does that.. irritating as fsck.

My alpine blackbird does not do it. It warns at 2 miles (freeway) then 1 mile and then 1/2 a mile.. On the streets the alpine gives a 1/4 mile headsup with a countdown to the turn distance indicator. I like my alpine, only thing its lacking an update.

the Garmin C340 does it at 0.9 mile on the freeway and on teh streets 500feet before it. Someitmes even on the freeway> if i am not watching the GPS i can miss the turn.

My Kenwood DNX7100 has a Garmin GPS that seems to work okay. I've never missed a turn due to it being late in its prompt. I have other gripes about the unit but the TTS and overall functionality of the GPS are fine for me.
