George Will: ‘I’m quite confident that we’re going to rebel against this abusive government’

Among other explosive comments, Will told us that he is “quite confident that we’re going to rebel against this abusive government…sooner or later arithmetic is going to force realism on us.”

Right on George!

One blurb from the interview:

What do you view as the greatest threat to America today?

Will:The greatest threat to America today – there are two of them and they’re related: one is family disintegration, the fact that Americans’ babies are born to unmarried women. We know the importance of a father in the home. We know that the family is the primary transmitter of what’s called social capital, that is the habits, mores, customs, values, dispositions that make for success in a free society. So that’s one threat to America.

The other is the simple fact that we will not live within our means. We are piling up debts for other people to pay. We used to borrow money for the future. We won wars for the future. We built roads, highways, bridges, dams, airports for the future. Now, we’re borrowing from the future, from the rising generations in order to finance our own current consumption of government services, and that just seems to me as fundamentally and self-evidently wrong as can be.

I'm sure that President Romney (who Mr. Will predicted to win by a landslide) will be very troubled to hear about the certainty of Mr. Will's predictions on what political actions Americans are going to take.

Not to mention that we all know that George Will is not willing to raise taxes to live within our means. So not only does he not view the deficit as the greatest threat to America today (if he did he would be willing to raise taxes to close it), but he's a liar about it too. How fun for us all!

Duped again, huh?

It's good to see that Mr. Will has finally come to his senses on the issue of debt. It's quite a turn around for him. I recall his days as the press waterboy for Reaganomics and deficit spending. Now that he has woken up to the debt issue maybe he'll reconsider his views on tax policy.

Is this the same George Will that called anti-gay discrimination proponents "sore winners" on Fox News?

^^^ Exactly CitizenKain .. when he states "father" I don't think he approves of gay couples or he would have said 2 parents.
ALSO why is it US politicians are only looking at deficit reduction. HOW about National DEBT reduction??

Why is that?

Not all government spending is good spending, I hope you would agree to that. I could have a ball in Vegas and come home and not have enough left to make a car payment. Lots of fun, but not a good use of my funds.

I can't afford everything I want and neither can government. The difference between government and myself is that I came to the realization a long, long time ago and I learned to prioritize my spending.

The only ways out are to ask people to assist more, and/or CREATE jobs here. How about a bill that states that if you do business in the U.S., you must manufacture a certain percentage here?

Without good jobs (Obama's infrastructure/jobs bill could never get through this congress) we will forever be underemployed, underutilized and unhappy as our population just keeps growing. Thankfully we have food, drugs (illicit and not) and credit to pacify our suffering.

With that and how observed we are, and the exploding police state (complete with vehicles and personnel straight from a war zone), I don't see much difference between this and the dark sci-fi books that predicted such things decades ago. The signs were there. We're our own (and the planet's) worst enemy.

Why don't conservatives like Mr. Will speak to any of this? Because they support it all. They don't want more jobs under Obama, because that would make him look good. They want to distract us from their unproductive ways by trying to get us to 'focus on the family' and other such traditional forms. What business do you have forming a negative opinion of people's families? Do you think they all should be alike? Do you not see that life everywhere is complicated? Do you think people aren't up to the task?

Mr. Obama didn't dig the hole we're in. 'Off-book' wars did that. Obama's team added to it in order to break the free fall, and it looks like that worked for now. Conservatives hate that, and redirect again by not focusing on the causes and realistic solutions, but on outcomes that would undermine Obama and the left like cuts in SS/Medicare. Wouldn't that be a nice mark against the dems.?

Mr. Will, do you think we don't see through this?

“That’s a settled issue. That said, this too must be said: It’s a funny kind of sore winner in the gay rights movement that would say, ‘A photographer doesn’t want to photograph my wedding — I’ve got lots of other photographers I could go to, but I’m going to use the hammer of government to force them to do this.'"

Or its a matter of principle. Silence implies consent and I totally understand gay people wanting to take a stand against people who are still trying to make them into second class citizens.

It takes a lot of balls to criticize the person being discriminated against for not acquiescing to that discrimination. It is the fault of the photographer and no one else. Then again, there's a reason why George Will has the reputation for wrongness that he has.

Yes, it actually is a matter of principle. Why would anyone want to hire someone to work their wedding when they know that person is opposed to what they are?

And the whole thing is that such a thing is THEIR choice to make. Always be sure to keep the blame where it belongs, on the photographer. It's wrong to blame people for standing up for themselves.

Well you and I may have something in common. Actually my family puts away 20% of our income for retirement. The CONSERVATIVES next door are foreclosing on their house. Dumbasses have a nice boat and two new Lexus vehicles. I drive a 2009 Corolla and my wife drives a 1998 Camry. I will never buy anything on credit. The only debt I got right now is 45k note on my house which will be paid in 3 years. Then I will be debt free completely. I imagine it is just about a time for a nice lingering illness to wipe me out financially before killing me.

And therein lies the rub of Will's comment.

George Shill is a highly overrated pseudo-intellectual on the right, whose only job is to repeat the usual boilerplate, but in a professorial tone.

OH MY GOD !!!!!
What BS, George!

George? Want to know exactly why the so called Traditional American Family is no more?
And never will be, again?
Economics along with greed.

The one and only single thing that has destroyed the traditional American family took place long ago beginning right after the late 1950's.
The last of the so called LEAVE IT TO BEAVER family lifestyle in America.
The 1950's, when a house was built with a one car garage.
Where mom stayed at home because dad earned well enough to meet all the family needs, and save plenty for little Billy's college fund.

When little Billy came home from school, mom was there.
Dad had the car, the one family car, housed in that single car family garage.
And I might also add, unions flourished during that period of time.
If dad had a factory job, he was no doubt in a union.

Then what happened?
Republicans happened.
Republicans, corporations, and massive greed replaced the traditional American family value.

Mom had to get a job to help out and make ends meet. Or attempt to meet.
Dad's union was sabotaged by corporate greed, and thus his earning power.
Mom needed her own car now to drive to and from work every day.
When Billy came home from school, little Billy found the house empty.
Billy's college fund began to shrink substantially.
Yes, Billy was now looking at technical school training, or the fast food industry, at best.
Dreams of college were replaced with making the house payments, the second car payments, and dad's rehab treatment payments.
Yes, all this drove dad to drink.
Mom sipped a little bit too, Billy had noticed.
And Billy?
He had a new bunch of friends.
They hung out after school, and discovered being up to no good was the new American way for a kid his age.

Well George, you get the drift.
The very leadership you support today and so admire and desire, created the end to the traditional American family.
And the attack continues today at full force.
Despite democratic attempts to at least slow down this destructive process of greed and corruption.
The democrat attempts to address and assist the medically uninsured, the minimum wage worker, the homeless, the unemployed (thanks GW for all your help - NOT), and saving what we have left of the unions.
Democrats, still defending that very American family backbone originally creating and made possible your traditional American family that you, George, so admire and desire.
At least your admiring in illusion of spirit, if never in practice.
George, George, George.... what are we going to do about you?

It's good enough to see through George Will's shtick.
He got a nice gig going peddling that BS to the masses, some of them even washed, so I will give him credit for intellectual capacity in this regard.
