An internet merchant whose website was compromised...

Found this in my inbox this morning.
Fvcking wonderful 🙁

They won't identify the merchant. I just sent them an email back asking for the timeframe of the compromise so I know what statements to start with on a more thorough review.

Anybody else have experience with this? Reccomendations? I think I want a new card. They could sit on this for months before actually using it.

arent u supposed to fill in all your credit card numbers and social security number so the scammers can compromise the rest of them

Nope, this isn't a phish. If nothing else, there isn't a link anywhere in the email. Just a notice to go check your account.

kinda sounds phishy to me...
why wouldn't they tell you what company it is?i dunno, doesn't make sense as a phishing scam or a regular notification...

better not be the egg...

It could be - I bought a few things from them in the past few months on this card.

Also shop4tech and surpluscomputers comes to mind.

Add travelocity/United Airlines to that list, and crazy aaron's putty world (Christmas shopping for the kids 😛)

According to them, VISA doesn't tell them the identity of the merchant unless the merchant has already made it public.

Again, I don't see how it could be a phish - there's no link in the email, nothing directing you to reply to a certain address with information, etc. It's nominally coming from the address I ussually get my statement notices from, etc.

But I'll send them a message from the website and see if they will confirm it.

maybe the scammers forgot the link 😕

which ever credit card it was i would be sure to drop them if they sent me an email about it and not a phone call

Just got a message back in response to the message I sent to them via their website - definitely not a phish 🙁

They said that it's no problem to re-issue the card - it'll just take two weeks, and then I'll have to update all the various places that have it on file. Or maybe I won't, considering that this is how I got into this mess to begin with. I ussually don't choose to let internet sites keep my credit card data on file, but it's probably still in the billing records, just not your profile - I wonder who screwed up?
