why are they putting silencers on .50 cal sniper rifles?

Reduce the noise in their immediate area, and make it harder to trace the location of the shooter?

just seems a little odd. Usually using a .50 cal for very long distance or to take out armor, so reducing muzzle velocity with a silencer doesn't seem like the greatest idea.
IIRC, velocity doesn't go down too much, and you do make it much safer for your ears (and eyes, and night vision, etc.)

One miss, one hit (on his bag) and one for a kill. At that range, despite the environment, it`s still an incredible shot. The round was just able to fly further, it wasn`t any easier to aim.

No one's denying that it was an incredibly long-range kill.

What people in this thread are objecting to is your substitution of part for the whole.

One great sniper does not mean all Canadian snipers are equally skilled. Same applies to Americans as well.

Canada doesn't have too much going for it. The sniper thing is the new Avro Arrow, softwood lumber, or whatever hot topic that the Canadian governments wants the people to think through its strict media control while avoiding real issues. Let them have something, even if it is the belief that they have the best snipers in the world due to the actions of a sole peasant under command of an inbred Queen.

Why does the US fly Canadian snipers from Kandahar up to the north to help them?

Aren't Americans up for the job?

We don't take orders from the Queen, we have our own constitution. The Queen is just a head that we all sorta go whatever to, as she has no power in Canada except diplomatic immunity.

Michaëlle Jean is the Governor General. The Queen has nothing to do with it.

Peasants take orders from their Lords. It's always been like that. You can try to think that you're not a peasant, but unless you belong to that inbred family, you are a peasant.

lol, strict media control is only applicable to legal proceedings. Everything elso goes. Unfortunately for me, it's going the American way, where headline matters more than content.

Since when did Canada have an army?

Canada has been in Afganistan since 2002. We lost close to 100 soldiers. Stop bad mouthing our commitment. I may not agree with the mission, but our men are there and they will get it done.
