An image dilemma for my semester group project

I have a ppt presentation to give on Friday. My partner made a logo for the company in MS Paint. It has blue letters and a white background. We want to be able to place the logo over a background in ppt, but I can't figure out how to get the white background to be transparent. I don't have photoshop, so if that's what's necessary, then I guess I'm out of luck. I do have Office 2003, including Publisher.

Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
