An idea for those who don't have air conditioning

I was just thinking about what our prehistoric ancestors used to do by making a circle of stones around their fire. Even after the fire had died, the stones kept and radiated heat for hours in the cave. Now put that idea in reverse and move forward 30,000 years. Buy 2 or 3 ornemental stones or bricks and put them in your freezer. When they are cold, take one out and place it in half a hamburger styrofoam container millimeters in front of your intake vent. That stone will take a lot longer to get warm than, say, a bag of ice would. When it gets warm after a few hours, simply bring it back to the freezer and replace it with stone #2, which will cool your intake while stone #1 is getting cold again. Since your freezer is working anyway in your fridge (or if you have a separate freezer), you won't be consuming much more energy if that is a concern (eg. if you live in California).

I don't know if condensation might be a problem but I think it could be avoided by placing the stone a couple of mm further away.

Might be worth a try to get a few more MHz in the summer heat and not have to *ack* underclock your Tbird. ;)

I'm going to be cracking less this summer because I've already lost nearly 100Mhz. I'm looking into water cooling as I type even though I'm sure the water may just boil in this scorching NY weather:)

What a "coool" idea! :) I've finally been hit with the heat and have had to back off the mhz or my comp will lock up during the day when running seti@home. Running at night hasn't been a problem so far. Must-Not-Stop-Running! Doing my part for the Team...

I am also stuck in the NY heat, and my temps last night on my A7V were 60c and a case temp of 38c. I had to clock down to "normal" and leave the case side cover off and still running 53c for the cpu. The heatsink is quite warm to the touch.

I ordered a couple of 92mm fans to aid the front and rear 80's in my case, and will probably add more fans I have laying around. I would watercool, but I think my wife would think I am nuts, and I am sure she would forget to turn on the pump one day!
