Hey guys - I wanna mirror my mp3's, got another 40g maxtor but I'm wonderin' is there anyway I can get all my mp3's from the 1st drive on the 2nd w/out moving them & formatting both ??

TIA

If you want to set it up as a RAID-0, then the answer is pretty much a clear NO.

<sorry>.

You can move the stuff to a temporary drive/backups & then do your RAID-array & move the stuff back.

If you want to mirror I assume you intend to use RAID1. You should not have to clear the drive to mirror it depending on the hardware/software you are using. If you lose a drive in a RAID1 array, all you have to do is replace the bad drive and rebuild the array without a format of the good drive.

I have a hacked Maxtor/Promise ATA100 controller ?? will that build the array.

hold on, which is mirroring, 0 or 1 ??
I want the same info on both drives for redundancy & fast read times.
