System in sig is having a problem.

I'm trying to move files over from an External HDD (OXFORD chipset) on the onboard Firewire, to a HDD on the PCH SATA II controller. It keeps hanging even after I reboot. I looked in Event Viewer and found this many times:

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR2 during a paging operation.
I have no idea what is causing this other than drivers, but I can't find a newer TI driver and I installed the newest Intel drivers.

That disk number (Harddisk2) means it's the third disk in the system, often a USB or Firewire disk. And, yeah, when I see that error, it's usually a failing disk. I guess it could be cabling or the disk controller, too.

The only way to know for sure would be to remove the disk from the housing and connect it to a different disk controller with different cabling. I use those combined SATA/IDE-to-USB adapter cables for that kind of thing. But you could insert the disk directly into the PC if you have a spare (IDE, I assume) disk controller port available.

They are all new manufactured the last half of 2009, WD Blacks. I think I forgot to install the GIGABYTE SATA drivers. BUT I thought the Intel package had it covered. It's definitely the newest 640GB WD Black because when I copy to the SSD it's 4 times faster, and this is just a X25-V.

WD Data LifeGuard doesn't play nice with Win 7 so what else will check the SMART beside speedfan (I don't like that program).

I broke out the ol' USB cable and saw bursts of over 120MB/sec on the external HDD steadying out to 55MB/sec. This may work out well since my audio is going over Firewire anyway.

I also checked event viewer and saw no errors, so problem solved I guess.
