Te < Tm

Te = The duration available for a particular species to adapting to the changing environment. Either the species adapts to this new circumstances or face a severe disadvantage or even extinction. This can be termed as describe evolution in terms of discrete steps. The change in the environment could be physical or social. Once the species adapts, it gains an advantage or atleast retains the status it had before the change. The change it is the functional adaptation gained by the body in terms of mutations in genes affecting body structure.

Tm = The duration for mutations to happen for a species to adapt to the changing environment.

If Te < Tm Then the species under question survive.

If Te > Tm Then the species under question go extinct.

Bertalanffy's simple equations for complex systems moving against entropy are much more detailed; Written in 1968.
