An end to military surplus?

Last week there was a UN disarmament/firearms conference and the resolution that was past was that Governments would scrap/smelt/destroy any Government surplus firearms regardless of if they are military, police, forestry, surrendered etc. If it's in the possession of a Government agency and it's surplus it should be destroyed, it dosen't matter if it's a machine gun or a hunting rifle. Australia is following this guideline and last Friday decided to scrap there surplus L1A1 rifles

This does not bode well for my hobby if true.

Ouch....I'm sure there'll be markets you can purchase small arms. Most manufacturers have surpluses themselves...plus, most are here in the states.

Collecting military small arms, primarily bolt action, from about the turn of the century onward.

That's right...I remember you. 🙂 We PM'd about some Winchester rifle I was asking about.

Another reason to disband the UN.

For sure but it won't happen.

You're right. not until some of our politicians get their heads out of their a$$ and stop bankrolling this farce of an organization.

Most of them wouldn't be in the government's possession though, so they wouldn't be covered. I agree though, that really sucks.

It's sad seeing good guns have their lives cut short.

The CMP comes to mind, as it is a government run program with thousands of M1 Garands and 03 Springfield rifles in storage awaiting sale.

Ha! Like that's really gonna hold up here.
It doesn't have to. Those Australian L1A1s were supposed to come here after being demilled (cut into a few pieces), where they would be purchased in kit form by civilian buyers, who would then replace the cut pieces with new ones to build legal firearms. NOW they will be melted down and made into... wtf does Australia export anyway?

Not that I have any interest in that kind of stuff. No guns in my house. No sir. Nope. Nuttin.

our government would never let that happen.

Unless Kerry becomes president... He's pro-UN and anything they stand for. He's also highly supported by the anti-gunners...
